Karen Ann III is an excellent example of the classic Defever 40 that was purchased in June of 2014 by the well known and respected author of a series of Cruising Guides and host of Cruisers' Net Claiborne Young as his "Research Vessel". Sadly, the tragic loss of Claiborne brings the boat back to the market much too soon.

The boat is in excellent condition, her previous owner being very meticulous.  She just received fresh bottom inspection and painting and had completed a journey from the Potomac River to her current location in Wilmington, NC.

The Defever 40 Passagemaker is a classic Galley-up two-stateroom two-head layout with a large salon.  Unlike many trawlers of the day this one was built in America, California actually, and is all fiberglass. 

The layout is well designed, salon doors on both sides of the house, walk-around decks, a larger aft deck and larger cockpit than most, as well as a large bridge deck.

The Master Stateroom features one double berth to port with a built in dresser and a companionway that opens to the aft deck.  The Master Head has a stall shower.

The Forward Cabin has a V-Berth and a private entrance to the Forward Head.

The Salon has excellent 6' 6" headroom and great visibility all around.
