Gulfstar Motorsailer

Le Vent is hull number 32 from Gulfstar in its acclaimed 36 Auxiliary series.  This well laid out motorsailer has been declared one of the best live-aboard cruisers ever to come out of South Florida. While some of the early 1970’s Gulfstars had issues, by the 1980’s these deficiencies had been overcome. The boat sleeps eight comfortably and has a huge amount of storage area. The teak interior is like new and so are the cushions. The 50 HP FWC Perkins 4-108 diesel has relatively low hours (~1,100) and has been meticulously maintained by the owner. The sails, bimini and dodger are also in good condition. The bottom was painted in October 2014 and zincs were renewed in October 2014 as well. This boat has been owned by the same individual for many years and thus has literally hundreds of personal upgrades. The hull was peeled and re-glassed using Knytex 1708 cloth and Vinylester resin in June 1996. No blisters visible since then. If you are a serious cruiser, this may well be your boat!

All wood below is varnished teak in excellent condition with varnished teak and holly sole. The cushions are also in excellent condition and are beige with narrow muted stripes. All bunks have lee cloths and 12 Vdc reading lamps. All hatches have screens and all port lights have both screens and heavy weather lenses. The boat is wired with 110 Vac receptacles strategically located throughout.

Starting from the pointy end, the forward cabin has a good sized forepeak locker forward with sold teak double doors. A large double V berth cushion (no insert) with shelves to port and starboard take up the bulk of the compartment. There is storage under the berth in the form of two deep lockers (one had the Electrasan and battery. The other is empty. There is also a double door cabinet below the aft end of the berth. Spare engine parts are stored there and go with the boat. A large hanging locker is to port and a door opens to starboard into the enclosed shower/head compartment. Ventilation is provided by an overhead hatch, a dorade vent and an opening port light.

Moving aft through the oval teak privacy door to the forward compartment leaves two beautiful double door cabinets (one over the other) to port and the second door to the head to starboard. The head includes a marine toilet with adjacent stainless steel double sink with hot and cold pressure water in a vanity and small cabinet under the sink and a large cupboard outboard above the toilet. A large shower stall separate from the toilet area has a telephone shower fixture with hot and cold pressure water, two shelves and a teak seat. Ventilation is provided by an opening port light and two dorade vents.

Continuing aft is the main salon. The central focus of this is the double drop leaf teak table. A 6’ settee is to starboard with storage behind the seatback in three cubbies. The seatback also becomes a pilot berth. The starboard settee coverts to a slide out double and has storage under along with three cubbies behind the seatback. There are also two cabinets and two large book shelves above the settee. Light and ventilation are provided by an overhead hatch, four non opening ports, one opening port and a dorade vent.

Aft of the salon to port is the L shaped galley. It is equipped with a double stainless steel deep sink with hot and cold pressure water a spigot for draining the ice box and a fresh water tank vent spigot. The galley also has a Shipmate two burner propane stove and oven with pots and pans storage under and an 8.5 cubic foot ice box.   There is also a large dry stores locker in the counter top. There are seven dish, glass and flatware cabinets outboard and aft of the space.

To port is the navigation station with a unique chart table that has been enhanced by the owner to take a chart kit with drafting board (included).   There is storage under the chart table in the form of a cabinet and additionally there are four convenient drawers. Aft of the navigation station is wet locker with louvered teak door and then the double quarter berth (fuel tank with the fuel shutoff and gauge under). The berth also has two storage compartments under and solid teak ceiling panel outboard.

The engine is located under the five step companionway ladder and has an easily accessible sound insulated teak door and a hatch that is part of the counter top.
