North American 40 (Morgan Yacht)

DRUMBEAT is a three-owner yacht that has been sailed only in fresh water on Lakes Michigan and Huron.  She has been stored indoors for most of her life and shrink-wrapped when outdoors.  No expense has been spared in her maintenance and she has a "like-new" appearance.  Besides her good looks, DRUMBEAT is a delight to sail, whether racing, cruising, or day sailing.  Her large comfortable cockpit can easily accommodate six to eight guests, and her wide decks are easy to move around on.  She has a long racing history on the Great Lakes and is still competitive under both the PHRF and ORR ratings.

DRUMBEAT has been designed and equipped for both racing and cruising, with eleven Lewmar deck winches, including two self-tailing primary sheet winches.  Two additional winches mounted on the mast for spinnaker halyards make for a total thirteen winches positioned within easy reach of the crew for all sail handling requirements.

DRUMBEAT'S mast, spreaders, spinnaker pole, reaching strut, and aluminum "Twin Stay" headstay and all fixed stainless rod standing rigging were manufactured by Stearn Sailing Systems in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.  This is the same Stearn Sailing Systems rig provided to many other racing/cruising yachts worldwide in the 70's and 80's and they are known for their quality and performance.  Stearn also designed and manufactured the hydraulic backstay adjuster and hydraulic boom vang, which greatly simplifies rig and sail shape adjustments while sailing.  These features help provide and maintain maximum sailing speed and comfort under all wind conditions.

Six Bunks, with 2 Settee and 2 Pilot Berths in the main cabin, and 2 Quarter Berths with bunk filler board on the port side to form a 7 ft. long "Double Berth".  Large Enclosed head with shower and electric drain pump, stainless steel sink, Hot/Cold Pressure Water System with Cold Water foot pump, mirrors and storage lockers, towel racks, etc.  Two large hanging lockers in main cabin opposite head.  Settee backs hinge open to storage lockers under pilot berths.

Cabin has two large fixed port lights (Lexan), one over Galley, and one over Chart Table.  Four "Gray" opening ports with screens provide air and light to main cabin and head.

Forward Fo'c's'le area under a 24" x 24" forward hatch is wide-open for sail storage, and also could accommodate two "pipe-berths" if desired.  Large hinged-top chart table (storage underneath) with cushioned seat (storage underneath) has two large adjacent shelves for electronics, instruments, radios, GPS, and books.  Chart table is on the port side, facing forward.

Large Galley on starboard with gimbaled "Shipmate" LP 3-burner stove and oven, plus 20 lb LP aluminum gas tank in custom fiberglass sealed locker under cockpit seat.  Tank equipped with electric solenoid shut-off valve in tank box with remote switch and "On" light in galley, to meet Coast Guard requirements for LP gas stoves.  Large front-loading ice box with two shelves and room for 200 lbs of ice below food shelves.  Sliding doors above stove open to two shelves for dishes, dry foods, etc.  A separate top-loading two-shelf storage bin holds large pots and pans.  The stainless steel sink has a hot and cold pressure water systems with overboard drain.  A separate foot pump provides cold water to the sink without the use of the automatic electric pressure water pump.

Cabin sole is varnished teak and holly veneer, and all main bulkheads and cabin sides have varnished teak veneer.  Hard and hanging locker doors are varnished solid teak, as are all trim moldings.  Large centerline dining table, drop leaf, seats six to eight.  Custom fiddles for the center area of the table keeps items from sliding off with one or both leafs locked up or down.
