Aage Walsted Sparkman & Stephens - Priced to sell!
Puffin was designed as a race boat in 1969. She has eight single berths, efficient galley, two heads, and two companionways. She has only been three owners, was extensively raced in the Atlantic and Caribbean with several transatlantic race and some european races. She was designed to be lifted by a crane from a single point for loading on a ship and has a very well designed internal structure for mast, keel and trim tab. Bilge areas were stripped and re-painted. New stainless steel frames were fitted and added, cockpit and stern rebuilt, internal metal frame to take the load of the bsackstay off the transom. All exterior and interior varnish was stripped and revarnished. Topsides faired and sprayed with Awlgrip. New carbon mast and pole with rod rigging. Puffin is in excellent shape, perhaps in many respects better than new. She is very solid construction and extremely strong, yet only 25,000 lbs. An excellent performer with a breakthrough keel of 1969, possibly the forerunner to the Swan 44s and Seguin 44s. With the new mast 5' higher she can be sailed as a sloop or yawl. The original mast is still available if required. Hull: Spanish cedar planking over laminated 2” x 2 ½” frames set at 14” on center. The frames are tied to the keelson with welded stainless floor frames. The planks are held to the frames with copper rivets. The topside planking is double layered with back fastening from inside out. There are also bronze screws used along garboard rabbit. There is a longitudinal stainless plate connecting the floor frames in the keel area. The stem, keelson and deadwood appear to be Cedar. Keel: Fin keel, lead external ballast with 1 ¼” bronze keel bolts. Decks: Teak over plywood and 1 ½” x 1 ½” sawn beams set at 14” on center. There are larger beams at companionways and hatch ways. The cockpit has two (2) Marelon valves for scupper drains, teed with seat drains. Cabin/House: Short trunk with teak sides and fiberglass over plywood top. Rudder and Steering: Laminated cedar with 2” bronze post, supported on a bronze heel fitting which s bolted to a laminated skeg. There is a similarly built trim tab supported on a bronze heel fitting on the end of the keel. Both have bronze packing glands inside. The main steering is wheel to wire quadrant with an emergency tiller stored. The trim tab steering is hydraulic has been removed and tab is locked in place.
