Trumpy Motoryacht 1956 - Priced to sell!

Overview

A truly magnificent example of the exquisite workmanship performed in the Trumpy Boat Yard in Annapolis, MD., during the height of that famous builder’s productive years.  Until recently STARGAZER III has had the same owner for twenty five years.  In 1995/96 she was completely restored and redecorated at the Roscioli yard in Ft. Lauderdale under the close supervision of her captain and knowledgeable owner.  “Millionaire Magazine” in 1997 featured her restoration in an article titled “Trumpy, the Restoration of a Classic”.  Her beautifully crafted joinery, magnificent lines and tasteful interior appointments are reminiscent of the classic yachts of the early twentieth century.  There are very comfortable accommodations for owners and two guest plus crew.  A fully equipped galley, cozy formal salon, spacious main deck and fishing cockpit add to her comfort and utility.  “STARGAZER III” deserves serious consideration by the experienced yachtsman seeking a quality older yacht with character.

Accommodations

Typically the 55’ Trumpy Standard and Cruiser/Fisherman will accommodate two in the owner’s party, two guest and two crew, all in private cabins.  The crew quarters are forward with upper and lower berths.  A door in the forward companionway separates the crew cabin from the galley.  Although the galley is small by modern yacht standards, it is very nicely equipped and well designed.  The salon is amidships situated above the engine room.  It is very formal and beautifully appointed.  The guest and owners cabins are down companionway steps and aft from the salon.  The guest cabin is starboard side and has two built-in twin beds.  Additionally there are two “Pullman: type berths, one above each bed hinged into recessed alcoves.  They are unnoticed until lowered into position above each twin berth.  The guest head and shower are portside across the companionway from the guest cabin.  The owner’s stateroom is aft occupying the full width of the vessel.  The beds are port and starboard in the classic yacht tradition.  The ensuite head has an enclosed shower.  Steps in the aft bulkhead provide access to the fishing cockpit from the stateroom.  The wheel house and upper salon or main deck area are partitioned by a large helm seat. An aft companionway leads down to the cockpit. A glass enclosed companionway portside forward leads down to the salon below.

Restoration

In 12997/98 ‘STARGAZER III” underwent a complete restoration and refit at Roscioli Marine in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Details of that project are documented in a feature article “Trumpy, the Restoration of a Classic” published in Millionaire Magazine in 1997.  Major items include the following:

The bottom was repaired, refastened and glassed.  Some wood was replaced in the salon cabin top and boat deck and these areas were glassed over.  The engines were overhauled  and three  air conditioners were installed.  The entire galley was remodeled with Corian countertops, new appliances and cabinetry, a Sea Recover water maker was installed. Auxiliary fuel tanks and new engine exhaust systems were added.  The wheel house TV cabinet and cockpit laundry cabinet were fabricated and installed.  The Bang & Olufsen sound system was installed.  All the bright work was stripped and renewed and the entire vessel was painted in white Awlgrip.  The entire interior was stripped, varnished and painted, carpeted, upholstered and redecorated.  During October 2001 through January 2002, the vessel was hauled out and all rub rails were refastened and the outer 1 ½” were cut off and a new outer portion was laminated on using white oak and sealed with West Systems epoxy; the bottom paint was renewed, the propellers were removed, refurbished, balanced and reinstalled; all bow rail stancheons were rebidded and refastened; the entire topsides from the boot top to the toe rail including the transom was stripped, prepped and painted in white Awlgrip.  The name was repainted on the transom.
