Ranger Tugs R 29

This 2012 Ranger R29 is a Ranger Tug at its best. Besides all the standard necessities Ranger Tugs are known for this particular Tug has been enhanced and modified to the highest degree. Seldom will you come across a 'used' boat that has been manicured and maintained as well as this one. With the fully enclosed custom cockpit canvas this boat is in pristine condition and has never been internally 'wet' and openly exposed to the harsh northwest environment. This one owner Tug, which has always been kept in covered moorage, is only for sale because the owner's needs require a 'larger boat' and totally unexpected we found one that's acceptable.

This particular Tug has every option Ranger offers, except air-conditioning and built-in generator, plus many additional upgrades, additions and refinements. If you are not familiar with Ranger Tugs check them out at rangertugs.com to see all the 'standard features' that are included and a virtual tour. The name alone speaks volumes about the quality and reputation of this boat. This particular vintage of tug was made during the period where there was extensive use of teak in the interior. Furthermore, the interior of this tug has been additionally enhanced by one of Ranger's talented carpenters to our own specifications. Sadly, the traditional R29 Tug is no longer in production leaving a big gap between the R27 and the R31in both size and price. Unlike the R27 and the new Ranger 29 Sedan this R29 has the helm door and the aft sliding throttle console. Other highly desired features include propane oven/range, electric flush fresh water toilet, bow and stern thrusters with wireless remote, autopilot with wireless remote and two flat screen TVs. The Garmin 7215 navigation/radar/autopilot package is equivalent to or better than many million dollar yachts on the market.

This R29 is powered by a Yanmar 6BY2-260, a 6 cylinder FWC 260 HP BMW turbo diesel engine with 450 hours of run time. The engine is current with all the Yanmar service bulletins. The oil & filters have been changed on a 50-60 hour operating interval. The engine has always been operated in the recommended mid to high power settings for maximum longevity. Although the boat is rigged for fishing it has never been used for fishing and exposed to prolonged low RPM trolling speeds. The boat has never been operated or worked on out of my personal control and supervision.

Since specifically built for northwest cruising this R29 does not require the complexities of a reverse cycle air-conditioner and the required large, water cooled, generator to support it. The essential cabin heat is simply provided by a built in, silent, Webasto forced air diesel heater.

Instead of a built in generator this boat is still well electrically powered with six Odyssey Group 31 AGM batteries (new in July 2014), a 2500 watt inverter and a solar panel charging system which are all supplemented when necessary with an included Honda i2000 portable generator. Besides the additional weight the elimination of these two options frees up a lot of additional storage space and simplifies required maintenance.

Although this boat is easily trailerable there is no trailer included.

Imagine a 40-foot cruiser with sleeping accommodations for up to six adults, live-aboard accommodations, a complete navigation electronics package and the economy and reliability of diesel power. Imagine its headroom and elbow-room, complete galley and head with shower, and its standard bow and stern thrusters for pinpoint maneuvering.

Now imagine all this—and more—in a trailerable 29-foot hull. That’s the idea behind the Ranger R-29, a comfortable family cruiser offering admirable range, a smooth ride, responsive performance and all the standard features you need for a cruise itinerary that could be measured in weeks, not just weekends. Among the R-29’s many noteworthy features are two private double staterooms plus a convertible dining banquette that converts to a third berth; a fully-equipped galley that’s ergonomically arranged for efficient meal preparation; large view windows and five opening skylight hatches for outstanding light and ventilation. There’s even a pilothouse door for immediate access to the foredeck, and a molded-in cabinet in the self-bailing cockpit for refreshment service and additional storage.

Thoughtful extras include a cabin-top rack for securing water toys, crab pots or bicycles; a stainless steel railing system surrounding the transom platform; and a hinged mast for trailering and access beneath low bridges. You can also select a variety of just-right options to tailor your R-29 exactly to your cruising style; these include a diesel generator, enhanced navigation electronics package, autopilot, air conditioning…even a Kyocera solar panel to keep batteries fully charged and to power selected onboard electrical systems.
