Islander Sloop - Priced for quick sale

The Islander 36 is a sailing classic and was the standard of excellence, quality, and innovation in the late 70's and early 80's. Referred to variously as a performance cruiser, family cruiser, and a blue water cruiser, these boats have an extraordinarily versatile reputation. The striking lines of the Islander 36 speak eloquently to the power of her high-aspect ratio rig, her exciting turn of speed, her light air capability and the degree of control, provided by her deep keel, fine underbody and full skeg rudder. A generous eleven foot beam ensures excellent downwind stability. Sporting a large T-shaped cockpit and uncluttered wide side decks with sturdy handrails and lifelines she offers easy sail handling as well as exceptional safety. At least twelve of these sturdy yachts have reportedly circumnavigated successfully. The I-36 was, and still is, a favorite with knowledgeable sailors. Accommodations

This yacht was designed by Alan Gurney and its interior, with its comfortable quarters and welcome storage, was conceived by Bob Perry. Plentiful ports light up the interior where the cream colored vinyl headliner and the light oak counters interplay nicely with the newer off white upholstery, the teak joinery and the fiberglass/carpeted sole. Entering the salon from the companionway, the L shaped galley is to starboard and the Nav area is to port. There is counter storage, an outboard shelf, and a cabinet at the standing chart table with a utility rack at the rear bulkhead and several convenient drawers forward. The electrical panel is just inboard, under the companionway steps. Aft of the Nav station is a comfortable sea berth, an outboard shelf, an overhead light, and storage beneath the berth. Going forward, into the traditional salon, you notice the Islander trademark folding table that nestles up to, and is partly concealed by, the forward bulkhead. Opposing settees flank the table and have sea rail handholds running their length just below the ports. The port settee has storage behind it and converts into a double berth. Outboard are three drawers and a long cupboard. Forward is a counter shelf curving inboard at the bulkhead and encircling the mast. The starboard settee has top loading storage beneath it, more storage behind it and a large shelf outboard. The passageway going forward has a roomy private head to port with an opening port light, an outboard cupboard and a cabinet beneath the vanity counter of the sink. Across to starboard is a large hanging locker with a counter surface below the other opening port light. The forward cabin has a V-berth with a filler cushion. There is access to the anchor locker forward, shelves running along both sides, drawer and compartment storage below the berth and a small hanging locker with a counter surface aft to starboard. Light and air are provided by a large overhead opening hatch, a fixed port light on either side and two overhead lamps.

Deck

Islander 36s have a proven PHRF and One Design track record. The spacious cockpit and deck are capable of sporting a full crew. They are also respected as an offshore cruising yacht that can be sailed easily by two people or comfortably by one. Designed by Alan Gurney to be a fast, seaworthy, comfortable cruiser/racer, the I-36 is sought after as one of the best value boats of its size. Easily driven yet strongly built. The mast is stepped on the keel with double spreaders and inboard chainplates allowing close sheeting angles. The sturdy cored decks offer unusually wide walkways with good non-skid and secure life lines that ease sail handling and add safety in the roughest seas or around the buoys. A deep underbody and big skeg-hung rudder provide great upwind performance and fingertip control.
