This is a boat with a lot of great history and character. Syrene I was built in 1921 in London for a Greek tobacco millionaire. In the 30s, she was brought to British Columbia to serve a mission boat for the Church of Canada. In 1941 she was purchased by the Forest Service of British Columbia to service the province's forest lands. In 1977 she was purchased by a private owner and kept in a boathouse at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club until April of 2010. At that point she was purchased by her present owners, and now she is ready for her next voyage. Hull Materials Inch and a half double planked teak over bent oak frames with yew wood and copper sheathing below the waterline. Recent Work Back up compressor serviced, 110 ac drive motor rebuilt, back up ac bilge pump, drive motor rebuilt and belts replaced. At 2012 haul out all through hulls valves inspected, serviced and confirmed operational. New 20 gallon head holding tank install to accommodate guest head aft. Aft head and forward head replaced with Dometic fresh water heads. All hosing and valves replaced. Through deck fitting installed for both fore and aft holding tanks. Aft tank from poly forward tank from stainless Both hawse pipes replaced with stainless from deck through hull. Hawse deck bezel and hull backing blocks replaced with locust wood at the same time in summer of 2011), Starboard anchor plate replaced. Backing block over starboard shaft strut replaced 2012, port backing bloc found to be sound. All hull fastener plugs removed and replaced 2012, hull sanded, primed and fresh painted 2012 using “Fine Paint of Europe. Vessel hauled in 2010 and 2012 for below water line inspection. No faults found. Bottom painted summer 2012 all zincs replaced and new transponder installed on bottom. All of the above described work completed by Jensen Boatyard Seattle. Salon sanded and stripped as needed, primed and repainted. Salon African mahogany ceiling caps removed, wooded out and finished in varnish. (2011) Teak hand rails sanded and finished in varnish. (2012) Mast stripped and varnish, air horn refurbished Boat deck cleaned, sanded and resurfaced with water proofing and non skid application. Canvas covers for large teak fordeck boxes replaced. (2012) Boat cover canvas replaced (2012 Installation of new 12 volt system including auto charge battery servicer, wiring and switch/fuse box Work In Progress Sanding and varnish work on deck cabin exteriors. Installation new head in owner’s cabin. Replacement of non stainless counter top elements in galley Fabrication of deck boxes for accommodation of propane tanks on the boat deck. Fabrication and installation of storage cupboard and service counter on aft deck Addition of 110 ac outlets to multiple areas of the vessel Installation of 12 volt back up auto bilge pump systems Owner Scheduled Work Re-bed half round located at intersection of deck and hull, sand and varnish same Pull and replace seam seal on forward deck. Caulking is tight with no leaks but sealer is somewhat worn Replace canvas drops around vessel perimeter. Lightly sand and oil decks Upgrade salon settee Design and fabricate radius bench across aft of stern deck Usual seasonal maintanence Notes To Work The majority of work completed on Syrene has been done at the owners discretion and not due to a failure of materials or machinery.
