The Pacific Seacraft 38T was designed by world renowned yacht designer, Bruce King, and built in Southern California by Pacific Seacraft, who was twice selected to the Fortune Magazine list of “100 Products that America Makes Best”. Bruce King’s designs are famous for their brilliant combination of classic shapes combined with modern underbodies. The 38T was designed during the period of King’s collaboration with the Hinckley Company on the “Picnic Boat” and modern Talaria powerboat models.
The 38T exhibits all of the traits of King’s designs including a classic hull with flared bow and tumble home aft. Stanchions connecting the flybridge overhangs have camber, twist and tumble home in them, as a component of the eye-catching profile. The covered side decks reduce heat load in the interior, and also help keep the salon dry when moving in and out of the interior or loading goods onboard through the bulwark doors.
The interior wood is teak, joined in a fashion that Pacific Seacraft is noted for. Solid teak frame panel and true-louvered doors along with beautiful veneers result in a very warm feel to the interior. Exterior steps up to the flybridge are molded into and cleverly concealed into the interior spaces. The master shower takes its headroom from otherwise dead space in the aft corner of the galley.
ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
The 38T has a two-cabin layout – one forward and one aft – with a salon and galley separating them. Enter the salon from the port side deck through the sliding door. The galley is to starboard. The salon extends forward with a folding dinette table and settees to port and starboard. The lower steering and instrument console is to starboard, and has a fold-down helm seat.
Step down from the salon forward into the forward cabin. To starboard is a hanging locker with louvered doors. There is a vee berth with a filler cushion forward. Teak hull ceilings and custom shelves make the space comfortable and add utility. To port is the ensuite head with VacuFlush toilet, vanity and compartment shower. There are solar vents and a deck hatch overhead for light and ventilation. There are also opening ports in the head and the forward cabin.
At the aft end of the salon and to starboard is the galley. There is a stainless steel sink under mounted into a Corian countertop. All the way aft is a Force 10 propane stove. A microwave oven is overhead set into the overhead lockers. The galley is filled with light from windows outboard and aft. There is a refrigerator/freezer directly across to port.
There are two points of engine compartment access: one is through the lifting hatches in the main salon sole for mechanic’s access. The other is through the lifting steps to the master cabin, which is very handy for engine checks when the salon is occupied. Aft of the galley and down the steps is the master cabin. A double bed is set athwartship. There are large windows all around and a companionway to the aft deck aft to starboard. A large combination locker with louvered doors and one section for hanging is just forward of the bed. The aft section of the locker absorbs the steps up to the flybridge molded into the cabin side, but the remaining volume has more than generous storage space. The master head is forward and to starboard in the master cabin. There is a separate shower that is set below the galley counter, affording generous headroom.

MACHINERY, ENGINE, FUEL SYSTEM AND ENGINE ROOM EQUIPMENT:
Two Yanmar 6LY2A-STP engines rated at 440 hp each will power the 38T up to approximately 24 knots at wide-open throttle. They are very well accommodated along with the generator and other mechanical systems in the engine room beneath the main salon sole. There are two access points to the engine room: one is a hatch located in the forward section of the salon sole, and the other is via the lifting steps leading down to the master cabin aft. The aft entrance allows easy access for engine room checks when guests or other members of the crew are present in the salon.
Good sound insulation and Soundown lateral water drop mufflers contribute to a comfortable interior environment while under way.
The raw water intakes for the Yanmar engines draw from two seachests that can be cross-linked if one should foul.
The Fischer Panda “mini-8” generator located forward in the engine room is surrounded in its own sound shield inside the insulated engine room, making it quiet enough to be pleasant aboard, or for others in the anchorage.
A note about the engines: Both engines have had valve replacements per Yanmar’s directive. The work was done in Dana Point, CA by a Yanmar certified service agent.
