Gulf 32 Pilothouse Sloop - New Arrival

The Gulf 32 Pilothouse Sloop is a strong, blue water-capable cruiser, designed by Bill Garden and built by Capital Yachts in LA from the early 1970's to the mid '90's.  This 1988 model, Helina, is well-appointed and in very good condition, providing comfortable wheel-steering inside the pilothouse or externally in the spacious aft cockpit.  These boats have a following, with a number of well-known owners who have written much about the boat and their journeys.  One of those, Brian Windrope, owner of Aeolus from Anacortes, WA writes the following about his experience with their Gulf 32:

She sails very capably at all points. I am rarely passed by another vessel, even when pointing, and then only if it is one of the mega yachts around here. Hull speed about 6.7 or so. Mine is sloop rigged. She is so stiff it is crazy. She will reluctantly heel over just a bit, and then even if close hauled and 25 knots, with full sails up, she will not put her sides all in the water. My wife and two boys are always comfortable. She is not spry or lively, no Ericson 28, but carries enough sail that again I have never ever felt fat and slow. We don't race, but I do like to move along.

Helina is ready to cruise, with radar, GPS, roller-furling genoa, lazy jacks on the main, dinghy davits, a well cared-for Universal 40 hp FWC diesel, microwave, AC/DC refrigerator, 3-burner stove/oven, and more.

Additional Information

Below deck the pilot house has windows all around providing 360 degree visibility when steering from inside the pilot house. The roomy cockpit has three seat lockers and full length teak coaming tops. The cockpit pedestal steering unit has engine controls, electronics pod and a binnacle compass. The roof of the pilot house extends out over the forward windows to shield off sun and spray. Three large hatches open for ventilation. Two solid teak handrails are fastened to the top of the pilot house.

The Gulf 32 feels spacious for her size with her clever arrangement and accommodations. From the spacious V-berth forward that accommodates 2 adults moving aft to port is a large hanging locker, to starboard is the head. Continuing aft is the galley to port with a stainless steel sink, granite counter tops and a three-burner stove. To starboard is a double berth with leaded glass windows storage cabinets. Moving up and aft is the removable, swiveling helm seat with a 360-degree view through the pilot house windows and a clear view of the mainsail above through the large, clear deck window.

For all-season boating in the Northwest and beyond, this fine vessel will provide a level of comfort not typically available in sailboats under 40 feet.
