The Huckins Atlantic 44 offers the best of two worlds: it captures the classic grace and elegant design for which Huckins has long been famous while using the most modern building techniques and materials available. The 44's profile, with large windows and mahogany toe rail and trim, is as pretty as ever. The stem has just the right amount of curve, and her long hullsides warp aft into a tight tumblehome. Individuals wishing to avoid the hassles of a large boat and a crew will find that the 44's extra-wide sidedecks and ingeniously disguised handrails make moving fore and aft easier, which is essential during two-person docking maneuvers. The partially enclosed bridge deck offers an open-air helm station that provides protection from the elements. A center door leads inside, but that outdoor feeling isn't lost. "The idea with the large windows is to make the saloon light and airy so you feel you are outside when you are inside. After all, that is what yachting is all about," says Cindy Purcell, owner of Huckins Yacht Corporation and granddaughter of company founder Frank Pembroke Huckins. "On a lot of boats you are either in the wind or in a dark little hole. That doesn't happen on this boat." The Huckins Atlantic 44 has a classic look but her construction belongs to a new era. The company uses fiberglass composite core construction from keel to cabin top, and the equipment list boasts the latest in marine technology. The interior is finished in tasteful light colored wall coverings accented with cherry woodwork. To starboard in the saloon, a comfortable L-shaped lounge converts to an optional fold-out double sleeper. Cabinetry along the port side contains entertainment equipment and the electrical panel. One step down, the galley features a Corian countertop, teak veneer sole, and virtually any appliance desired. The very spacious head has a sink with a Corian top, Raritan electric toilet, and a large separate stall shower. The stateroom offers a clean look with two stowage drawers beneath the queen size berth. There is also a large cedar hanging locker.  But more than her individual features, the attraction of the Huckins Atlantic 44 is the timeless appeal of her classic good looks and deft handling.
