Deerfoot
The DEERFOOT is a beautiful and well designed fiberglass performance cruiser. She was built in 1980 by the well known and respected Salthouse Brothers yard in Auckland, New Zealand to a Doug Peterson design. She was the first of the Deerfoot series yachts that were conceived by Steve Dashew and built by various yards around the world that all shared the similar concepts of being large, luxurious, seaworthy designs that could be handled by just a couple. DEERFOOT was actually built for Steve’s father Stanley Dashew who was the original owner. She is arguably the prettiest of all the Deerfoot series yachts and will turn heads in any harbor. DEERFOOT underwent significant refits in 2000, 2004, and 2008 which were all done by the current owner. The 2000 refit included a new Yanmar diesel main engine, a new Northern Lights diesel generator, and new 12V refrigeration by Technautics. The 2004 refit included a new carbon rig by Hall Spars, all new standing rigging out of Navtec rod, and all new sails to fit the new taller rig which was designed by Alan Andrews. The new rig includes modernizations such as a Code Zero reaching sail on a continuous line furler. Mainsail and jib were built by North Sails in 2005 and are made of Spectra. The mainsail employs full battens and a Harken Batt-Car system. Other sails include a Gennaker built by North Sails in 2005 and a Code Zero built by the Doyle New Zealand loft also in 2005. The 2008 refit included the addition of a Spectra water maker, new electronics including chart plotter, radar, and AIS, the addition of a large cockpit bimini, and the addition of a storm staysail (North) to the sail inventory. Starting forward of the watertight bulkhead is a huge storage area with access from the large deck hatch. Just behind the bulkhead is a head with vanity and privacy door. Next aft are two double berths to port and starboard that can be enclosed for extra guests or crew quarters. Down the starboard side are three large hanging lockers that flow into the ships office area. Across and to port is a upper and lower berth stateroom with enclosed head with plenty of ventilation and hot & cold pressure water. Continuing aft we walk into the salon with U shaped settee to starboard, teak cabin sole, large salon table, and straight settee to port. The salon is trimmed with native New Zealand kauri timber, large windows that provide a 360 degree view and more than enough air flow that’s provide by the three opening hatches forward and large deck hatch above the salon. Next aft and to port is the U shaped Galley with a Force 10 three burner stove and oven; the oven has a broiler, Kenmore microwave oven, two deep stainless steel sinks with running hot and cold water, large refrigeration area accessed from either the front or top with than enough counter space for preparing large meals for the whole family and crew while at sea. Across and to starboard is the Navigation station with room for books, laptop, electronics, and charts, drawer space beneath chart table and electrical distribution board. Next aft is the owners stateroom with queen size walk around berth and plenty of locker storage. This stateroom features it’s own private head with separate stall shower.
