The J/40 was introduced in 1985 setting a new standard for performance cruisers that are fast, simple to sail and easy to handle by a couple or single-handed.
White Rabbit is an excellent example of this offshore performance cruiser. Her past two owners have maintained her to the highest level and outfitted her for coastal cruising with all of the amenities you would expect in a boat of this pedigree.
Interior:
- Varnished sole and oiled teak interior
- Two private cabins, each with large v-berth with filler section, teak lined hanging lockers, bureau, full length door mirror, book shelves, two swiveling reading lights, opening ports and overhead hatch
- Aft head to port with shower, mirror, vanity cabinet and large wet hanging locker
- L-shaped settee to port in main cabin with backrest storage compartments, shelf and cabinets on both port and starboard
- Teak main cabin table which folds up on main bulkhead
- Large 24x36” chart table with chart storage, navigation equipment bin, overhead electrical panel and instrumentation panel

Winches:
- Primaries: Two three speed self tailing Barient #32’s.
- Secondaries: Two two speed self tailing Barient 28+’s. Chrome.
- Main sheet: Two two speed self tailing Barient 24’s. Chrome.
- Halyard: Four two speed self tailing Barient 22’s. Chrome.
Safety:
- Lifesling and tackle.

Canvass:
- Custom dodger and boom tent made by “Artful Dodger” of Port Townsend in May of 2004.
- Bimini, new in 2000.
- Second dodger, age unknown.
- Second boom tent, age unknown.
- Mainsail cover, age unknown.
- The cockpit seats have custom full length “Bottom Sider” cushions plus two West Marine “Go Anywhere” chairs.
Furling:
- Furlex Roller Furling, new in 2000. Forestay was replaced at same time.
Sails:
- Mainsail: North full batten with Harken “Battcar” system. Two reef points with reef lines, plus flattening reef and Cunningham. Good condition
- Mainsail: North Kevlar w/ Harken Battcars Good Condition
- North Kevlar 150% - Good Condition
- North Kevlar 90% - Good Condition
- Dacron 55%: Very small 2/3 hoist sail. Re-cut by Hasse in 2004 and is now used as the “winter jib” - Good condition.
- 3/4 oz tri-radial with both turtle and sock. Spinnaker is purple with a large White Rabbit logo. Age unknown but in excellent condition.
- Custom retractable lazy jacks were added in 2007.
- Running checkstays.
- Spinnaker pole is aluminum and 1’ longer than the “J” dimension.
- Topping lift was replaced in 2007.
Hydraulics:
- Both the backstay and the boom vang are controlled by a Navtech hydraulic system.
- All hoses and fittings were replaced in 2000.
Autopilot:
- Two Navico WP 500 wheel autopilots.
- One is installed the other is still in its bag and has never been used. Previous owner sailed to Alaska and wanted a back-up.
Radar:
- Raytheon R72 CRT
- Antenna is mounted on a stern mounted pole.
Instruments:
- Autohelm apparent wind direction and speed
- Autohelm boat speed
- Autohelm depth
- Autohelm timer
- Two Autohelm cockpit repeaters were added in 1990.
Navigation:
- Three compasses: Ritchie “Globemaster” binnacle mounted at wheel; Plastimo “Contest” on bridge deck under companionway; Ritchie on cabin top in front of companionway.
- Various local paper charts, parallel rules and dividers, navigation rules and regulations.
Radios:
- Standard Horizon and is located above the chart table.
- Hand held Standard.
- There is an JVC AM/FM radio, cassette deck and Pioneer six disk CD player located over the chart table.
- There are Bose speakers in the Salon and waterproof speakers in the cockpit.
Galley:
- Double stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressure water.
- There is a separate faucet for cold filtered water (Seagull system).
- Auto Therm refrigerator/freezer.
- Electrically operated with compressor under sink in aft head. Heat from compressor warms hanging locker.
- Seward “Princess” three burner propane stove with oven.
- There is also a single burner bulkhead mounted gimbaled stove. It comes with a coffee pot and small soup pot.
- Outside in the cockpit there is a rail mounted Magma Kettle propane BBQ.
Heads:
- There are two heads.
- Each has hot and cold pressure water, sink, shower and toilet.
- Both toilets were replaced in 2000.
- There is also a hand held shower with hot and cold water in the cockpit.
Cabin Heat:
- Ardic forced air kerosene/diesel with thermostat.
- Heater was re-built in 2006.
Electrical:
- AC shore power is 30 amp.
- Two 50’ power cords.
- Built in “Smart Charge” battery charger.
- Two inverters.
- DC power is 12V.
- Four 12V batteries.
Steering:
- Edison SS wheel with leather cover.
- Cables and chain replaced in May of 2000.
- Rudder bearings passed inspection in 2000 and 2007.
Anchor windlass:
- Lewmar electric vertical.
Anchors:
- One 35lb Delta “Fast-set” on bow roller. 150’ of 5/8” nylon with 30’ of 5/16”ACCO G4 chain.
- One 25lb Danforth in its own cockpit locker with 150’ of 3/8” nylon.
- Both anchors came with boat, nylon new in 2000.
Other
- U.S. Flag on staff.
