Sea Island Boatworks 34 Redwing Tug
This Sea Island Boatworks Redwing 34 Tug “Letsee II” originated as a custom tugboat design by Karl Stambaugh of Chesapeake Marine Design and completed by the famed Sea Island Boatworks out of South Carolina. The owner wanted an economical and easy to build hull with a separate pilothouse. The hull form has proven to be efficient to power with an inboard 54 HP Yanmar diesel consuming around one gallon per hour at 7 or so knots. That’s real efficiency under power for a boat of this size. Fuel capacity of 80 gallons provides an excellent coastal cruising range. “Letsee II” is absolutely one of a kind in every way and was truly built like a tank in every aspect. Her interior is finished in cypress throughout and the finish work is beautiful. She has a generous size cockpit with very high gunwales for the safety of guests. Moving forward from the cockpit, one will find a very well-ventilated salon with a settee/dinette to port and a full length galley, with icebox, stove, sink and storage, to starboard. Moving forward and up the stairs is the best view around- the raised pilothouse. She was designed with windowns and portholes that completely open for maximum ventilation while cruising or at anchor. There’s a full helm to starboard, storage to port and dual jump seats on the aft bulkhead for guests to enjoy the view. To port and starboard are large sliding doors that allow access to the decks and bow. Beneath the pilothouse deck is the engine room, with plenty of access to all mechanical and electrical systems. She has a built-in inverter that will power the microwave, a 65 Amp alternator connected to a Xantrex marine charger and a full master distribution panel for AC and DC power. Electronics include a Raymarine C80 radar/chartplotter, a Raymarine Smartpilot autopilot, a Raymarine Bidata digital depth/speedo display and two ICOM VHF’s with separate antennae- everything one would need for coastal cruising! Forward of the pilothouse and down a few steps is the master stateroom and separate shower and head stalls. The owner elected to have a separate shower stall (instead of a traditional “wet head”) to starboard. This area doubles as storage when needed. Forward is a typical v-berth setup with ample storage and ventilation. There’s not one place on this boat where one would feel claustrophobic! Letsee II is in turn-key condition and ready for her new owners. She is priced at much less than half of the cost to build a new one and she’s truly one of a kind!
