Palmer Johnson Maxi Class
One of the most prolific yachts in the history of sailing, NIRVANA shocked sailors when introduced in the 80's with record setting finishes on the most challenging of courses throughout the world, including Sydney Hobart Ocean Race, the Bermuda Race, numerous European races and Southeast Asian races as well, all the while sporting a fully fit, luxurious, cruising yacht interior, serving fettucini Alfredo, on heavy teak tables with white table cloths, crystal long steamed wine glasses, etc.. As one of the most successful Maxi racers ever to have been campaigned, Nirvana is a known world champion, having broken many course records of her day, and for four consecutive years holding the course record for the Newport to Bermuda, a race she dominated in other ways for more than a decade. She also held course records for the South China Sea Race, Sydney/Hobart and the the renowned Fastnet. But with all of the above notwithstanding, in every aspect she is a Yacht, capable of cruising in luxury and style, comfortable, safe, stable. Further to the point, Nautical Quarterly praised her spacious interior as "one of most outstanding ever seen in a boat of her kind". She would make an epic family yacht, one able to race or cruise in superb comfort and with the ability to cover long distances quickly, all the while in comfort and again, saying so twice should make the point, IN STYLE. Nirvana is a classic and one of the heirlooms of the sport. Historical. Venerated. Respected throughout the world of sailing. She is a must see for a sailor considering a yacht of real capability and great historical significance. A recent price reduction is an indicator that this seller wants Nirvana in NEW HANDS SHORTLY. Hopefully, you will be lucky to make those your own. Lovely FOUR STATEROOM plan, or three staterooms plus crew, excellent living space, sumptuous accomodations, and plentiful storage for living aboard or long distance passages. Please note the layout provided as the last photo of the listing. MASTER STATEROOM: Starting aft, the MASTER STATEROOM has a queen to port and a couch to starboard, also serving as a single bed. There is excellent storage in this cabin and opening ports to the cockpit, allowing for better communications to the helm. MASTER HEAD: forward in the Master Stateroom is the very large master head with bathtub and vanity and access to the engine room space. NAVIGATION: Moving forward from the master, the NAVIGATION STATION is to port. There is a desk, seating, storage. Inboard is access to the engine room space, and the very comprehensive electrical panel. MAIN SALON: Forward of the Navigation station is the MAIN SALON, with a large couch to port and a large dining table with again, a large couch to starboard that is U shaped and seats 9 to 10. The geometry of this area of the yacht is impressive, and of course this is partly due to her enormous beam. The bottom line is that the main salon is potentially suited as a dance floor. And as a sailboat interior, she offers wonderful space for you and your family. GUEST STATEROOMS are forward both to port and starboard. Both staterooms have upper and lower berths and are fit with very comfortable mattresses and luxurious sheet sets, lighting, proper cabinetry, cabinets, storage, pocket doors, ad infinitum. Note that the starboard stateroom has a private head and shower, the second of three, located forward in the cabin. FORWARD HEAD: forward of the staterooms is a large head, the third of three, with separate stall shower. This head serves as a day head for the yacht and also serves the port forward stateroom and the VIP cabin, or skippers cabin which is all the way forward in the yacht. GALLEY: Opposite the forward head is the galley, quite likely, the largest seen on a yacht of this size and one designed and built in the interest of hungry crew. There are multiple Refrigerator boxes and freezers, a large stove with oven, big sinks and enormous storage. DINETTE: Crew dinette to port. Stowage beneath and outboard. FOC'S'L: The large storage locker forward has shelves and houses sails, rigging, storage of gear. The area is quite large.
