Samson 45 C-Breeze Pilothouse Ketch

LOHTA is, by far, one of the nicest Ferro-cement yachts that we have had the pleasure to list. She was built by her owner in New Brunswick and was first launched in 1995. She sailed up and down the Maritime and New England coasts for her first eight years and then moved to Ontario with her owner in 2003. She had a very complete survey in 2011 and came out “shining”. The only recommendations from the surveyor were ensuring the double-clamping of hoses on through-hull fittings below the waterline, the installation of two cotter pins on her turnbuckles, and the inspection of all her fire extinguishers…most impressive.

LOHTA is a ketch-rigged yacht with a very comfortable pilothouse for the unpleasant weather and a large roomy cockpit for the beautiful days. Her decks are clean and clear with no tripping hazards and plenty of room for safe maneuverability in all kinds of weather and sea conditions.

Her interior layout is very clever for a pilothouse design. Her pilothouse is fairly well centered fore and aft with good interior room, comfort and visibility. Walking forward from her pilothouse, there is a passageway leading to the large V-Berth area with loads of storage on the starboard side of the passageway and a guest head on the port side. Walking aft from her pilothouse, the master berth is to port of the passageway and the master head is to starboard. Walking further through the passageway leads you to the large dinette and galley area located at the stern. This, quite obviously, is the main living area as the dinette has two large seating areas, one on either side, and the galley area is generous but designed with “safety at sea” in mind. As well, in this area, a diesel-powered heater is located forward to port for taking the chill out of those coolish and damp nights.

LOHTA is everything that most home-built Ferro-cement yachts wished to be. Her owner and builder, a tremendously knowledgeable and skilled engineer, did a remarkable job of making her into a very capable world cruiser. If you are looking for a reasonably priced and well-built yacht, LOHTA must be on your list of considerations.
