Covey Island Herreshoff Ketch

L. Francis Herreshoff defined the term “practical” as it applied to yachting, as author, curmudgeon and designer. ANNIE J showcases all that is practical in the marriage of power and sail. Covey Island Boatwork’s ability to replicate venerable designs using modern materials is unique. The result is an easily maintained, beautifully built yacht that will keep her guests exceedingly comfortable and engaged in the sport of sailing with the added benefit of traveling at trawler speeds when desired.

ANNIE J is configured with two staterooms: owner’s quarters are forward with enclosed head and shower stall adjacent to the forepeak, a comfortable settee to port and double berth to starboard.

The main saloon is striking and inviting with large windows and an abundance of daylight. The inside helm station is to starboard, just forward of a semi-circular dinette that would comfortably seat six. A central stairway (not ladder) leads up to the cockpit and aft helm station.

Cleverly positioned behind the stairway is the galley (see GALLEY). Down three steps is the aft stateroom with twin lower berths and single upper berth to starboard. Storage is abundant with numerous drawers and lockers. A second head compartment is ensuite and also serves as the day head.

Fit and finish is in Herreshoff yacht style with white tongue & groove paneling and varnished mahogany trim. Soles are a combination of butternut and black walnut with a natural finish. Ceiings are of bright finished cyprus. Ambiance is warm, inviting and traditional and of a quality not seen in today’s production boats.
