Island Gypsy Europa Trawler - New arrival

    " Great Bear "  has been lovingly maintained thru out it's life by 2 very knowledgeable yachtsmen. Has always  been moored in a boat shed and you would not know she is wood. Built by Kong and Halvorsen with a high degree of craftsmanship.

 Hull Interior

  Hull is Semi-Displacement, Material Wood appears to be Mahogany

   General Comments from surveyor: The interior is an efficient system of side and bottom frames, connecting girders, bulkheads and web frames which provide transverse and longitudinal rigidity. Limber holes provide efficient drainage of the vessel as required.

Floor: wood

Ribs: 1-3/4" X 1-1/2"

Planks 6" X 1-1/2"

Longitudinal: wood

Bulkheads are Constructed of Plywood

Sole floor is Teak and carpeting over teak

Superstructure ( Exterior )

Topsides material is wood plank 6" X 1-1/2"

Deck and Deck Fittings:

Deck Construction is Teak planking over plywood

   Noted: The owner reports;

The plank butt ends above the waterline are secured to butt blocks by means of stainless steel fasteners.

He has drawn fasteners during repair periods and fasteners were in good condition.

The original hull construction was straight Carvel with cotton filled seams. The owner has converted the vessel seams to splined ; looks to have been done professional.
