Davis 61Sportfisherman

Marichela is one of the last legendary 61 Buddy Davis built. She has a 4 stateroom layout and three heads. Twin CAT 3412 engines give her a good cruising speed while not burning to much fuel. Probably one of the best head sea boats design of her time.

The 61 Custom Sportfisherman is built by Davis Boatworks, probably the best-known Carolina builder. Davis builds boats in the 47 to 78-foot range. The Carolina hull design originated roughly 60 years ago in Roanoke Island, NC. The local fishermen wanted to build a boat that was capable of running the dreaded Oregon Inlet safely. With plenty of cedar, juniper, and pine available nearby, it was not unusual for many builders to experiment with new designs. Local workboat builders decided that by adding more flare to the bow, they could keep it from submarining when running the inlet. Even these early Carolina boats featured a sharp entry and very flat stern, which made for a smoother ride through the chop as well as a good amount of speed and economy when up on plane. While each builder may add some personal nuances in his products, a Carolina-built sportfisherman usually features an extreme flare of the hull with it's broken sheer, the low-slung salon, and the classic reverse tumblehome at the transom.
