The Lancer Pilothouse 40' is a true performance motorsailer, not a sailboat with a pilothouse. Speeds under power are in the 9 to 14 knot range.  The Lancer's long water line length, high sail area, NACA shaped keel and moderately light displacement contribute greatly to her all around sailing performance.  

Sailing has been simplified to the point where you can handle the functions of tacking, setting sail, reefing and stowing away sails all from inside the helm position.  Both the mainsail and headsail are equipped with furling devices and both are self tacking.  All sheets, halyards and furling lines are led to a control console with line stoppers and a self tailing electric winch.  

You enter the pilothouse salon from a large powerboat style cockpit, which offers the convenience of an opening transom gate to the swim platform. The salon is light airy and offers great all around viewing through its large windows. The helm station allows the operator to steer and handle sails conveniently and effortlessly with the help of a big electric winch and a bank of rope clutches.The convertible sofa offers berthing for two. The compact fold down table is convenient and allows for extra room when needed.  The u-shaped galley is a couple of steps down to port and a large head with separate shower compartment to starboard. The master stateroom offers a centerline queen berth and two hanging lockers and ample storage.
