Allied Xl-2 Yawl

This beautiful Allied 42 XL-2 yawl has had only two owners in her life span.  The first owner raced her extensively on Chesapeake Bay and off shore races, and sailed her to Europe and the Caribbean.  the current owner purchased the vessel in 2005, and proceeded with a complete 4 year re-fit.  Furly B has cruised the Maine coast from 2010 to present and has been offered for bareboat or crewed chartering under the watchful eye of her captain / owner.

Furly B's refit included: complete deck re-coring where needed, complete deck and hull Awl-Grip painting, bottom stripping and barrier coating,  Complete system upgrades for mechanical, electrical and plumbing, including replacement Yanmar 40HP diesel, all new electronics including Garmin GPS / Radar, new full suit of sails, dodger and sail covers, and plenty more.

A beautiful, great performing yacht that turns heads in every port she visits, Furly B is easy to sail.  She was designed by Sparkman & Stephens in the CCA era that favored good cruising and off shore characteristics while providing performance and windward ability.  Her keel / centerboard configuration allows for perfect balance and access to shoal water cruising areas such as Cape Cod and the Bahamas, and her yawl rig spreads out the sail area and creates numerous combinations for shortening sail.

For one seeking a modern classic yacht in excellent, turn key condition, Furly B is highly recommended.

The cabin of Furly B is spacious, particularly for boats built in her era.  She is finished in the Herreshoff style, meaning white bulkheads with varnished teak trim.  This adds to her spacious feel and is easy to care for.  The cabin sole is solid teak.  There are two large overhead hatches,  fitted with Skyscreen shade and screen system, 7 opening ports and two large dorade vents for great ventilation.  All ports and fixed windows have curtains. A propane heater is mounted in the main cabin for wonderful warmth on chilly nights while cruising.

Because of a high bulkhead at the companionway replacing the need for a bridgedeck, entering the cabin of Furly B is easy.  To port of the companionway is a very well laid out U shaped galley.  In the forward section is a huge ice box with double hatches.  A 12 volt Adler Barbour refrigeration system is efficient and trouble free.  Outboard, in the middle section is a stainless steel 3 burner Force 10 Propane stove with an oven.  The aft counter has  a large sink served by hot and cold pressure water.  Lockers for cooking and dining utensils and food stores are located outboard of the counters and under the sink area.  All systems, including pump, faucets, stove and refrigeration were replaced during the major 05-09 refit.

To starboard of the companionway is a  quarter berth, forward of which is a large navigation table.  There is a drawer under the chart table and lockers both under and outboard for great storage of charts, navigation tools and equipment.

The main cabin is next forward.  There are pilot berths port and starboard, outboard of two settee / berths.  The starboard settee is "L" shaped, and converts to a double berth.  The dining table is floor mounted and has drop leafs to reach each settee.   Great storage areas include large lockers under the pilot berths, behind the settee backrest cushions.

Forward of the main cabin, to port, is a bureau with two drawers and a trap, and a locker above.  A Force 10 Propane cabin heater is mounted in the alcove above.  Next forward, to port of the passageway, is a large hanging locker.

To starboard is the head area.  A vanity with sink and hot and cold pressure water and shower attachment is aft, and the marine toilet is outboard.  An opening port and a dorade vent provide good  ventilation.

Furthest forward is a comfortable V-Berth stateroom.  There is a bureau with 3 drawers aft of the starboard berth, and a hanging locker aft of the port berth. There are drawers and lockers under the berths and a filler cushion converts the two berths to a double.  A bi-folding door closes the stateroom from the passageway,  enhancing privacy, and there is a door directly to the head as well.  Ventilation is obtained via two opening ports and an overhead hatch, all with screens.
