Duguay Carvel Novi

Three Wire was launched June 15 2002 into the Northumberland Straight waters in Shediac, New Brunswick Canada. Her interior was set up for cruising with reliable simplistic systems . Her owners cruised all of New Brunswick, Prince Edward and Novi Scotia . In 2013 the original owner, a retired commercial pilot, sold the boat to its 2ndowner living in Maine. The new owner cruised her from Portland Maine to Wedgeport, Nova Scotia and commissioned Wedgeport Boat builders to finish her interior and make her more yacht like. The fly bridge was finished with comfortable seating for 7, navigation electronics, repeating engine gauges and a Sunbrella full length Bimini. The salon now has a port quarter settee that folds out to a double berth, also added was a dining table that drops down to a double berth , and all new cushions covered in Sunbrella fabric.

The new owner has cruised the boat back and forth to Nova Scotia twice , down to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard several times during the summer of 2014. The boat cruises at 7.5 knot at 1600 rpm and burns just under 3 gph.

Famed builder Guy Bourque built the boat with 1 inch x 1.5 inch clear red spruce which is steamed into shape aided by tamarack ribs. The planks are beveled and then pre-drilled and edge nailed every 6” with hot-dipped galvanized nails. The keel is 6’5” tapered oak. Next is the sanding of the entire hull, 2 coats of epoxy so that she COULD get painted and head to water IF her owner did not want to have the hull fiberglassed BUT 3-Wire’s owner wanted the added protection so he sent her to the well know Norm’s Fiberglassing shop.

Fiberglassing consisted of 1-1/2 (oz) matt laid out on the hull with marine polyester resin to which 24 oz  roven woven matt was then applied as well as another layer of 1-1/2oz matt. Once these layers were done they galvanize nailed the entire hull. After nailing they repeat the glass process again 1-1/2 oz mat with 24oz roven woven and 1-1/2 oz matt finished off with marine polyester resin and gelcoat paint.

The keel received twice the above “lay-up schedule”of 6 layers for a total of 12 layers! The above decks structures are 2oz matt with marine polyester and gelcoat paint. This method of overbuilding has been done to 100 boats by this company and is still the choice of North Atlantic Nova Scotia fisherman.
