William Garden Trawler Coastal Express

Back on the market again this fall after completing a full exterior restoration.

Our crew spent sixteen weeks this summer, and a couple thousand man-hours, taking her exterior down to wood, making cosmetic repairs and prepping "Crystal Sea" for a full professional refinishing.

From keel to anchor light she's been faired, primed, sprayed, varnished and top coated … and looks absolutely beautiful after spending the last five weeks of that process with the pros in the paint shed !

Now, all of that tedious and time consuming hand labor is finished - and you can be the proud owners of this true Northwest classic motor yacht - that turn heads at every moorage as she arrives.

Architect William Garden said of this modified 'Coastal Express' design; "This is a yacht for the connoisseur...don't think a boat like this can be built by anybody.  It takes great craftsmanship...the work of Philbrook's crew is superb, especially in the interior finishing."

Her hull is double planked cedar with a fine entry described by Garden as, "the most efficient shape possible for a boat of this displacement and velocity".  An August 2014 survey while hauled out reported her hull and topsides to be fully structurally sound and in "good condition, better than many of her peers".

Crystal Sea transports you in style and comfort.  Her twin 370hp Cummins are capable of 19 kts. and with an extraordinary 1,100 gallon fuel capacity, her designer says she can make a run to San Diego without refueling.

Jump to the 'full specs' for extensive details and fifty photos - she's a beauty.

Enter "Crystal Sea" on the enclosed aft salon through the transom, or through the Pilot House portside entry.  The main engines, genset and all 8D starting battery banks are easily accessible below the aft deck via four fully insulated hatches, and there is enough room for spares and deck gear in the built-in lockers and bench seat in the aft salon.  With more than a sixteen foot beam, this aft salon area is very spacious.

The main salon entry is through two sliding doors with a step down to the carpeted sole.  To the starboard is a full length settee and a hi-lo table for dining or cocktails.  To the port are cupboards and open shelving along with access to the main electrical panels, the inverter, and the 12v and 32v battery charging systems.  There is a full width cabinet with a built-in bar, ice maker and dish storage, along with an entertainment system against the forward salon bulkhead.

The galley is to starboard in the companionway.  Stainless sink with disposal, trash compactor, four burner electric stove top and oven with a ventilated hood, dual stainless commercial grade refrigeration and freezer, and a microwave.  You'll have ample storage for cookware, provisions and linens.

The guest stateroom is down two steps to the port side adjacent the galley.  Twin bunks, a vanity, storage cabinets and a hanging locker.  The guest head wth separate shower adjoins.

Continuing forward, the laundry with stacked W/D and a hanging storage area is to starboard ahead of the galley.

Forward to the Master stateroom with queen sized berth and built-in cabinets.  Also gain access to the forepeak storage area from here.  The ensuite master head and shower stall are private.

Steps lead from the galley area up to the Pilot House.  Here you have full 360 degree visbility, a captain's chair and a large forward helm bench.  To the aft in the Pilot House is an enormous seating area with a table for studying charts, or for lunch and visitors.  There are three separate helm and engine controls in the pilothouse, forward on the Portuguese bridge, and at the starboard aft deck.  There is a full canvas pilothouse enclosure that attaches to the Portuguese bridge for winter storage.

The cabinetry throughout "Crystal Sea" is beautifully fitted and has a gorgeous finish.  There are Berber carpets in all spaces and individual electric forced air heaters as well as a central radiating Webasto heat system.  Headroom throughout the boat is at least 6' 6". The Northern Lights 12kw genset will provide for your needs while cruising and she has both 30 and 50 amp shore power at the dock.

Enter the foredeck through the Portuguese bridge to the windlass and spare Danforth anchor.  The two mid-ship deck storage boxes are for house batteries (two new 4D's) and stowage for extra line or fenders.  The boat deck chocks hold a 10' AquaPro hard bottom inflatable dinghy with oars and a brand new canvas cover, and the davit is operated from here.  The swim platform is entered off the transom, has cleats for mooring the dinghy, and a folding swimmer's boarding ladder.
