1988 DEFEVER 41

This double cabin trawler stands out from other yachts on the market.

Classic Arthur Defever design incorporates comfortable accommodations with sensible amenities for economical cruising. Built by Bluewater Yacht Builders of Taipei, she  is a fine example of the traditional, sturdy, and abundantly teaked Taiwan-built trawlers from the 1980s that have appealed to liveaboards and cruisers for years.

This boat must be seen in person to be appreciated, with its classic high flared bow, sharp wave entry, deep stable forefoot and gentle curving shear lines. The moulded fibreglass hull of course exceeds Lloyd's requirements for motor yachts, and is presented in a carvel planked style.

Her highlights include a beautiful, handcrafted interior. All interior joinery is satin varnished solid plank teak, matched for colour and grain, with solid Burmese teak doors and traditional teak and holly cabin soles. There is a large, airy saloon with convertible settee, full galley, large aft cabin with en suite head incorporating a tub/shower, and a guest cabin with en suite. Outside are wide walkaround teak-planked weather decks, a roomy flybridge, raised bulwarks and an all-around teak handrail. Diesel powered, she has a thousand mile range and will get you there comfortably, cruising economically at 8 knots. And on those rare cool misty evenings, central heating will help keep you cozy.

If you are cruising couple looking for a well-built trawler with plenty of comfort and room that can safely take you anywhere, then this boat is definitely a must see.

Accommodations

Sleeps six in two staterooms and convertible settee.

The guest stateroom sleeps two in a roomy vee-berth configuration (with insert to make one very large berth) and has plenty of drawers, storage, and a cedar-lined hanging locker, alongside a head trimmed with teak and marble with mirror, sink, shower and manual-pump toilet. The cabin has a large Bomar deck hatch and bronze portlights for plenty of light and ventilation. There is also secondary access to the engine room from here (so as not to disturb saloon guests) along with two hatches for access to the forward bilge.

Three steps up a companionway is the saloon, where an L-shaped settee and table (which together convert to sleep two) are opposite the starboard lower helm station. Port and starboard companionways, located aft of the helm and the settee, lead through sliding doors to the side decks. In the aft corner by the port side door is the dry bar (yes, it's an oxymoron) with its countertop, twin lockers and hidden storage locker. The saloon is surrounded by sealed and opening safety glass windows, with screens & curtains, for all around excellent viewing. Four hatches in cabin sole give access to the engine room.

The bright, U-shaped galley, with room to cook and serve anything, is located in the saloon's aft starboard quarter. The galley has deep double SS sinks with cutting board storage locker and a fiddled counter top. There are 6-drawers and 5-lockers for galley equipment and food storage (all spacious and easily accessible), a large refrigerator, and a low-profile microwave oven which is fitted over the four burner propane range.

Set flush in the aft wall of the saloon a beautiful panelled door leads two steps down a companionway to the owner's cabin. This roomy master suite offers a walk around queen bed, walk-in cedar-lined closet, vanity and mirror, full length dressing mirror, plentiful locker and drawer storage, an en suite head trimmed with teak and marble and equipped with storage, three mirrors, medicine cabinet, sink, tub-shower (really nice!) and an electric toilet. The cabin has a large sealed window facing aft and 6-bronze opening portholes with screens. Two hatches in the cabin sole access the stern bilge.

There is also a companionway with a very traditional sliding hatch and doors giving private access to the stern deck.
