Essex Yacht Builders Salar 40

"KWASUN" is a Laurent Giles designed Salar 40. This vessel was branded a motor sailor due to its deckhouse, engine, and interior space, but this design was truly meant to sail with the minimum of compromise. This vessel was built to Lloyds standards by Essex Yacht Builders, England 1969. Over the period of 2009/2010 this vessel has gone through an extensive/complete refit overseen by an experienced and knowledgeable owner that wanted only the best for this boat. The interior is finished with Teak & Birds Eye Maple resulting in a rich and bright interior that has kept true to the styling of the vessel's vintage.

The Salar 40 is a full keel, center cockpit, ketch, with accommodation for six. The vessels design gives the skipper and crew many choices of berths and ample opportunity for comfort & privacy. This capable vessel would be at home sailing anywhere in the world, but with the deck house and good motoring abilities she is very well suited to our local PNW environment.

It is rare to find a classic that is this well done and being offered at a fraction of the refit cost, this is a truly a benefactor boat.  If a respected classic design, bulletproof build combined with the condition and reliability of a late model vessel is in your future you will not want to let this one get away.

- the vessel was totally stripped, re-fared, & painted

- teak decks were replaced with adhesive compounds (no fasteners)

- the masts were refinished and all hardware was replaced & refastened. At the same time the standing rigging and running rigging was completely replaced new. Low friction "Strong Tracks" were added to both masts.

- the vessel was fitted with new custom sales done by Carol Hasse of Port Townsend Sailmakers.  The new sail inventory is a FB Main, FB Mizzen, Genoa & Cruising Spinnaker

- vessel was completely re-wired 12V & 110V systems

- the hull was insulated with light, fire resistant aeronautical insulation before reinstalling the interior

- interior millworks completely redone to a high marine standard with teak & birds eye maple

- all through hulls were pulled tested, serviced and reinstalled

- all cabin windows were replace with new custom windows and frames

- lifelines replaced

- all plumbing runs and fittings replaced new

- custom English Connelly leather upholstery was fitted/installed

- the propane stove, aftcabin heater/fireplace & all propane systems replaced new

- all electronics upgraded with new units
