One of the few boats under 30 feet able to handle a full tower, the Albemarle 280 series began life back in 1984 as the sterndrive-powered Albemarle 27. Jackshaft power became available in 1986, and in 1996 a major facelift—including a redesigned floorplan and a slightly raised deckhouse for improved cabin headroom— prompted Albemarle to reintroduce her as the 280/282/285 Express Fisherman. (The 280 model has twin inboards; the 282 has single jackshaft power; and the 285 has twin jackshaft sterndrives.) No lightweight, anglers have long appreciated the spacious and well-arranged cockpit of the 27/280 with its generous rod storage and topnotch fishing amenities. Below, the accommodations are spacious for a 27-footer with a V-berth forward, compact galley, and a standup head with shower. The upscale interior is finished with quality hardware and fabrics throughout and accented with plenty of teak trim.
