Built in 1988 by Able Marine, DESPERADO has been well cared for and sensibly upgraded by the current owner. Originally set up as a one design race boat complete with custom pedestal in the cockpit to handle most running rigging, great effort has been made to convert her into a fast Gentleman's Day-Sailor. She is easily solo-sailed or could be a great platform for a crew. She can remain a wonderful Gentleman's Day-Sailor or, with little effort, can be legally raced in any IOD class race or regatta.

Condition

DESPERADO is in excellent condition with a careful owner's yearly improvements to both her performance and finish. The cabin top and decks were finished with Awl-Grip in 2012. Her topsides were painted flag blue in 2003, but could use cosmetic attention.

A custom teak sliding hatch, cabin doors, and cabin house trim have been installed. The original seats were removed and larger more comfortable teak benches were added making the IOD pleasant to sail. The sole was also replaced with new teak and oiled every season.

Her bottom has been sanded and painted yearly with VC Offshore anti-fouling.

The mast was replaced in 2005 with a Class Approved Forespar and a Kenyon Spars E-Section Boom.
