Cheoy Lee Sloop-Repowered With 50 Hours
Designed by Raymond Richards and built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard Ltd in Hong Kong with a long keel and masthead sloop design, the 38 is a well-built and popular sailing vessel. The owners have owned the Cheoy Lee Sloop for more than 25 years and have cared for and upgraded the 38 as needed. The engine was replaced in 2012 with a Beta Marine 50 hp diesel engine. The layout is the preferred layout with aft cabins and a forward cabin, large salon and wonderful galley area. The interior is air conditioned and the teak is in great shape. The original wood mast and boom were removed and replaced with an aluminum mast and boom and all new standing rigging in the 1990s. Entering the side decks by way of the starboard boarding gate, the side decks are wide and offer easy maneuverability fore and aft. The cockpit has port and starboard seating and an elevated helm seat. Under the seats are storage lazarettes. The self-draining cockpit has removable teak grates on the sole. The cockpit and helm is protected by a green Sunbrella bimini, dodger and helm cover. Most teak trim is protected by green Sunbrella as well. The center helm features a teak folding table forward. Along with the engine controls, the engine gauges are conveniently located along the starboard side. There is a folding stainless steel swim ladder aft and stainless steel dingy davits. The side deck teak was removed in the past and non-skid replaced. Wide side decks and cabin top teak hand rails make maneuverability a breeze. The companionway teak door is along the port side of the forward cockpit and folds open to starboard and the overhead slides forward. Down the ladder you enter the interior. The aft cabins are situated port and starboard and the navigation station is located along the port side. The starboard cabin is larger and features a folding privacy door, storage cabinets and a hanging locker. The port cabin offers and outboard shelf and the hanging locker is located behind the companionway steps. At the navigation station is the electrical panel and under is the inverter/charger system. Forward and to port is the head with manual toilet, vanity with sink and faucet and a medicine cabinet inboard. The head has a teak grate and the shower is hand held. There is an overhead dorade and opening port. Across from the head entry and along the starboard side is the “U” shaped galley area. Forward is the double stainless steel sink with a shelf forward. Under the sink is a large storage cabinet. Aft is the top and front loading refrigerator and freezer, ample counter top space, built-in plate and cup storage and cabinets above. Outboard is the stainless steel stove, cabinets under and above. The galley has an overhead hatch and port. The main salon is forward and features an “L” shaped settee to port and a settee to starboard. Both the port and starboard sides feature storage cabinets and shelving. Aft on the port side is the vented diesel heater. Between the settees is a large dinette with port and starboard leafs. There is an overhead hatch and outboard ports. Forward and along the starboard side is a large hanging locker and all the way forward and through a louvered door is the forward cabin. The forward cabin has a port side lower and starboard side upper berths. There is an overhead hatch.
