The pattern of the boards is a linear mosaic under a glass-like gleam of varnish. Hand-carved details, unique to each vessel, are etched into the upper hull. That kind of craftsmanship takes time; a Cutts boat takes an average of 4 years to construct. The Cutts patented method of boat building features veining grooves, Kevlar cording, a double-planked skin and epoxy-saturated cording.
