Alden Sloop - ALIBUBU

This is a 45 foot steel hull auxiliary sloop designed by John Alden & Co, as design #882. Vessel was built originally for Jack Aron of New York, NY as the yacht "Alibubu IV" by Abeking & Rasmussen in Bremen, Germany. The interior is a tri-cabin, two level deck layout with head to starboard and galley to port. Vessel is composite construction with custom built flush welded steel hull and upper cabin framing. Mahogany wood deckhouse, super structure and aft cockpit with bright vanish finish. Decks are replacement plywood and fiberglass / epoxy resin covered. Single spreader mast and boom are box construction of Sitka spruce in bright varnish finish. Auxiliary power is supplied by a 62 hp Beta diesel engine.

HULL CONSTRUCTION

 

TYPE: Full displacement with keel and skeg rudder.

EXTERIOR HULL: Dark blue painted steel hull with white waterline boot stripe.

FRAMES (RIBS): Vessel is steel framed construction.

 

DECK CONSTRUCTION

 

TYPE: Painted FRP and plywood composite construction.

 COCKPIT: Painted FRP and plywood composite construction.

 

SUPERSTRUCTURE

 

MATERIAL: Cabin house and deck are a combination of welded steel framework and mahogany wood side construction. Cabin tops are a combination of wood and epoxy resin / fiberglass construction.

 

DECK HATCHES: Three (3) large opening overhead hatches, one (1) square forward cabin house over v-berth, one (1) over main salon areaand one (1) over galley area. Hatches are clear lexan plastic with wood frames. Appears serviceable.

WINDOWS/PORTS/DOORS: Two (2) opening round bronze portlights located forward in v-berth area. Eight (8) opening 5 1/2 " X 12 1/2" portlights, four (4) each on port and starboard forward cabin sides. Two (2) large opening forward 9" X 19" portlights in raised cabin area. Large fixed windows on the aft cabin sides. Entrance to the

cabin area is gained by a sliding hatch and doors in the aft cockpit area. Serviceable.

 

SUPERSTRUCTURE HOUSE TO DECK JOINT: Welded steel superstructure frame work and deck joint.

CABIN APPOINTMENTS

 

INTERIOR DESCRIPTION:

JOINERY AND FINISH: The joinery and finish of the interior woodwork in very good condition.

CABIN BRIGHT WORK: Varnish finish on all wood doors and trim

ACCOMMODATIONS: Three (3) cabins areas. Forward v-berth, main salon with port and starboard bench seating and raised aft cabin area.

HEADS: One (1) manually operated marine toilet, located on starboard aft. Head was not tested. Appears serviceable.

CABIN HEATING: Cabin heating is provided by Wallas two (2) burner cook top unit. This is a diesel fuel unit with electronic controls.Unit is designed to also work as cabin heater.

STEREO, ETC.:. Alpine AM/FM radio with CD player and cabin speakers. Model DVA-9860.

 

GALLEY

LOCATION: Port side aft galley area.

SINKS: Single stainless steel sink in galley area. S

REFRIGERATION: Danfloss cold plate 12 volt DC refrigeration in galley.

STOVE/OVEN: The stove is a Wallas two (2) burner cook top unit. This is a diesel fuel unit with electronic controls. Unit is designed to also work as cabin heater.

HEAT PROTECTION (INSULATION): Stainless back splash.

 

PROPULSION

 

MAIN ENGINES

TYPE: Auxiliary power plant is a five (5) cylinder diesel naturally aspirated.

STORAGE TANKS: One (1) main ships tank is located on centerline in bow under v-berth.

ANCHORS: One (1) 44 lb polished steel plow style anchor. Appears serviceable.

RODE MATERIAL: Anchor chain and braided marine grade nylon anchor line, approximately 150' located in rope locker.

VHF: Raytheon VHF, Model Ray 55 located at navigation station.

RADAR: Raytheon RL70 radar with display integrated into multi function display at helm and navigation station.

CHART PLOTTER: Raymarine RC520 chartplotter display integrated into multi function display at helm and navigation station.

SPEED LOG: Raymarine speed log is integrated into multi function display at navigation station. Raymarine ST60 Tridata speed log is displayed at navigation station. Appears serviceable.

DEPTH SOUNDER: Raymarine ST60 Tridata digital depth is displayed at navigation station.

BILGE PUMPS: Three (3) bilge pumps. Two (2) lower bilge 12 VDC bilge pumps with automatic float switch. One (1) aft cockpit manually operated diaphragm type pump.

 

STANDING RIGGING

 

MAST: Wooden mast, Sitka spruce box construction.

SPREADERS: Single spreader rig. Appears serviceable as sighted from deck.

SHROUDS AND STAYS: Shroud and stays were 1X19 stainless wire. Appears serviceable were sighted.

BOOMS: 22' wood boom, Sitka spruce box construction.

TURNBUCKLES: Turnbuckles of the open design.

TOGGLES: Steel toggles.

 

RUNNING RIGGING

 

WINCHES: Mast has two (2) Meriman bronze wire reel winches mounted for main and jib halyards.

Cockpit has two (2) winches mounted outboard port and starboard.

BLOCKS: A variety of older (wooden - bronze) and newer (composite) blocks were sighted.

MAIN SHEET TRAVELER: Main sheet control is a Harken block and tackle attached to a wood post in aft cockpit.

HALYARDS: Braided halyards with wire to rope splices.

ROLLER FURLING GEAR: Forestay has wire bronze drum early design furling unit.

 

SAILS

 

SAILS: Vessel inventory is reported to include roller furling Genoa, storm jib and mainsail.
