Introduction

Bramora was delivered from the yard in 1999, to an experienced owner, as his 3rd yacht from Baltic. The deck saloon concept was developed from the owner and his family’s ideas for the ultimate cruising vessel. At this time Baltic Yachts had not built many yachts with this configuration, hence full scale mock ups of vital parts of the yacht were made to ensure that the final result would be as expected, - or more in Baltic’s philosophy, - exceed those expectations.

Thanks to Baltic Yachts’ building methods and choice of materials they are able to build a yacht like this and still exceed performance parameters (weight, panel stiffness and ballast ratio) of more flushed decked yachts from other yards. Bramora performs as a Baltic, and is a joy to sail and manoeuvre!

The Baltic 73 concept has led to a number of similar yachts from Baltic Yachts, and the deck saloon has been widely recognised to increase comfort and standard of living on a cruising sailboat. This trend seems to continue, both among long time sailors, but also as a result of more and more motor yacht owners looking to sail. Bramora should therefore continue to be an attractive yacht for the market in the future.

Builder’s comments:

A European client asked Baltic Yachts to build a 73ft pilothouse yacht to a Judel/Vrolijk design. With this kind of design, however, comes a challenge in maintaining a high level of sailing performance, due to the additional weight in the superstructure of the pilothouse along with the high levels of equipment typically installed on this kind of yacht. However, careful design and the use of high-tech composites still enabled us to achieve a ballast to displacement ratio of around 40 per cent.

The original owner went on to build a similar but much larger yacht at Baltic, and therefore sold his Baltic 73 to the present owner in 2005. Since then the boat has been subject to a care and management of the absolute highest standards. The full time and very professional crew, combined with the owner’s high standards and no budget constraints, have resulted in Bramora’s present technical and cosmetic appearance which has to be seen to be believed. A full winter (2007/2008) at Baltic Yachts, with an enormous work list, has also played a good part.

Bramora’s present home port is Palma, Mallorca.
