Bloemsma & Van Breemen Bharlin Blue

Keanimai was built as Bharlin Blue at Bloemsma & Van Breemen Custom Yachts in Makkum to the drawings of Hoek Design Naval Architects and launched summer 2002. She is an ocean going cruiser/racer designed for racing in venues like St. Martin, Antigua and St. Tropez, as well as long distance luxury cruising and charter in mind.

The light displacement and very good length-displacement ratio, the tall rig, large sail area and deep draft (possible by her hydr. lowerable keel) creates a very powerful yacht. Contrary to many similar designs, this yacht has been designed not only with performance in mind for racing, but also with safety and comfort in mind for cruising and passage making.

Weight has been reduced as much as possible, for instance all frames, deck beams and stiffeners where lightened with lightening holes. The hull construction is Lloyd's Register certified as a proof of reliability.

The keel is a very narrow fin with a large bulb in T- styled geometry. The 13.5 ton bulb of the keel is fitted on a lifting section, so that draft can be reduced from 4.60 to 2.60 m when a shallow bay needs to be entered. Lowering the keel means adding a lot of power to the already fast yacht. A flush deck, sleek deckhouse and large open cockpitwith beach alike aft deck, do not only create a eye catching racing yacht, the cruising cockpit as well as the deckhouse, that integrates a navigation table and dinner area, will also create a perfect cruising yacht for functional handling and lots of comfort. A tender and ‘toy’ storage (lazarette ) in the transom, a bimini, as well as many other features necessary for comfortable cruising are incorporated as well. The decision for aluminium hull construction was taken in view of the safety of the structure and of the resale value of the yacht. Metal construction provides redundancy strength and minimises the risk of puncture on impact with floating objects on ocean crossings.
