Baltic 65

The Baltic 65 is building on the great success of previous Custom Baltic 60 and 61 footers designed by Judel/Vrolijk.

Compared to the the 60 and 61 the 65 has an extended hull shape with slightly fuller stern sections. The main reason for the fuller aft sections is to create more power downwind without having to sacrifice much upwind performance. Together with Rolf Vrolijk we have run a number of VPP studies on various Length/Beam-, Displ/Length- plus SailArea/Displ ratios in order to optimize the design as much as possible. Priority was to create optimum sailing characteristics while producing a comfortable cruising yacht. As we all know these things are in conflict with each other. Performance asks for a construction that is as light as possible while cruising comfort and interior add weight. The compromise between racing performance and cruising comfort has been minimized by using high technology and lightweight materials in both the structure and in the production of the interior and equipment. Furthermore she has a lifting keel to give deep draft racing performance while also giving her access to shallow harbors with the keel lifted The lifting keel concept normally intrudes and interferes with the interior layout and limits the cabin arrangements and layout possibilities. But the 65 has a telescopic lifting keel that is located completely outside and does not influence the interior.
