Norwalk Islands Sharpie 18' Catboat - Absolute beauty

This lovely little boat is marine mahogany plywood sheathed with Dynel and epoxy.  She has a small cabin with 2 screened opening ports, single burner butane canister stove, porta potty. Electrical system includes panel, 12 volt battery, running lights & cabin lights.

The mast is carbon fiber with aluminum boom, lazy jacks, jiffy reefing system, and mast raising system.

The single-axle trailer is in good condition.  3HP Mercury outboard included with internal fuel tank.

Bruce Kirby is the most successful designer of racing sailboats in the world. The Laser sales alone lock that in. He has a proud record in production and one off cruising and cruiser racer designs, as well.

He is also the designer of the Norwalk Islands Sharpie range. The Norwalk Islands Sharpies have evolved from over 200 years of American East Coast working boat tradition. The working sailors needed fast, safe, economical, and easily handled working boats that could go out in all weathers gathering oysters and then run breaking bars to get their catches to market as early as possible.

The modern plywood epoxy composite range Bruce Kirby designed in the mid 1980's grew out of his need for a fast shallow draft cruiser racing boat that could cope with the silting estuary near his Connecticut home. Carbon masts and booms and Laser cut plywood component kits are now ‘off the shelf’. In addition, the fast and easy mast raising and lowering systems, a new rudder set up and refined motor systems have all changed the ownership and sailing experience.
