                                 Brief History About M/V FAIRWEATHER.

In the past Fairweather has had several different names.  In 1941 Ed Monk Sr. designed her and she was built by the Lind Brothers in Bellingham WA.  A year later she was requisitioned by the War Department and shipped to Adak Island in the Aleutians.  President Roosevelt is reputed to have been aboard her when he visited the Aleutians late in WWII.

After the war she had several owners and several different names.  Then in 1951 she was purchased byWillian Reed of Gig Harbor and named Play Mate and for the next 20 years was a prominent boat in predicted log racing at the Tacoma Yacht Club where she was "Boat Of The Year".

In or around 1972 Play Mate became M/V Fairweather.  Her owners in Sitka AK used her for nature charters for the next several decades with trips to Chichagof/Yakobi Island Wilderness Area and Glacier Bay National park.  Fairweather became the favorite boat for whale watching trips.  Whale researchers in Glacier Bay said that when Fairweather entered the Bay all the whales went to join her.  The whales cavorted around her and frequently followed her thru out the Bay.

Fairweather has cruised Southeast Alaska
