Eldredge Mcinnis Cutter

The Elredge McInnis-designed SOLACE was originally built in 1958 at International Marine in Yokohama, Japan, by skilled craftspeople to the highest standards.  A restoration of the boat began in 2000, and has been continued by the current owner, who works herself as a professional boatbuilder.  This is a partially complete vessel, the hull, deck, cabin sides are finished to a professional level of craftsmanship.  The boat does not have a rig, interior or engine at this time. SOLACE is an opportunity for a builder to complete the boat for his or her own use, or for an visionary owner to buy her with the intention of having a professional complete the restoration.

During the restoration the cabin was modified to facilitate blue water sailing, and the 50's style doghouse was removed. Notably, this boat comes with a extensive collection of bronze hardware for the deck and rig, hardware that is, of itself, valuable and hard to find. The current owner has meticulously researched the boat's history, and has a number of documents, including the builder's plaque and a pattern for the original insignia on the sail.   There are plans for the interior and the cutter rig that come with the boat, done by a naval architect hired by the previous owners.

The boat is double planked mahogany, the deck is teak and the frames and backbone are made of keyaki, a highly-prized Japanese hardwood that is dense and strong.  The hull is fastened with bronze and she has a lead keel. She has a stainless steel fuel tank, a bilge pump and solar panel to power the bilge pump. The boat does not have any other systems at this time.

While incomplete, this boat has been carefully maintained by her current owner. The boat has been launched each year for the past 5 years, and stored indoors each winter. For the right person, SOLACE is a opportunity to complete a classic.
