Herreshoff 57 - Available now
A very pretty Hereshoff 57 cutter rigged, long range cruising yacht with some work recently carried out to bring it up to contemporary standards and a piece of nautical history too. There is still quite a lot of work to do to finish it off but if you are looking for a project to get your teeth into, you can really make her your own. New teak decks were fitted in 2008 along with new hatches. A new galley and stove were fitted at the same time and the electronics updated with a Garmin 3010c navigation centre, radar, Epirb, 3.6metre aluminium rib with a 15hp Tomatso engine. The electronics haven’t been tested for the past couple of years and the hydraulic systems will need to be tested, amongst other systems. Dreamwalker’s classic lines can be traced to the legendary Herreshoffs of Bristol with a fibreglass hull modelled after L. Frances Herreshoff’s 1931 design for Tioga I – older sister to Ticonderoga. Realizing that this was no ordinary yacht, Sowerby hand-crafted classic, wooden frameworks, decks and cabins inside the fiberglass hull. The accommodation in this Hereshoff 57 is in 3 cabins with a large aft cabin, accessible from the cockpit and through a walkthrough from the main cabin. The main cabin has a full galley to port and a U-shaped table that will seat 6 comfortably. A full sized chart table is to starboard, as is the walkthrough to the aft cabin. To port there is a workshop and machine room. Forward of the main cabin is the heads with a shower and a twin cabin with v berths in the bow. Dreamwalker was built in New Zealand in 1975, she really is a lovely yacht and the owner has not got the time to put into getting her ready for sea. We have an owner who is motivated to sell so bring reasonable offers and with some love and systems work, she can be yours to take you on the next step in your journey. This Hereshoff 57 is lying in Grenada, West Indies - so you could be starting your travels in the warmth of the Caribbean.
In 1972 New Zealand Naval Architect, Alan Orams, drew up plans for a modern version of Tioga I. By 1974 the hull had been laid-up, and John Sowerby, who was at the beginning of his new career, was hired to finish the vessel.
There is a new black water tank and pressurised hot and cold water system.
The deep cockpit feels secure when you’re sailing and the hardtop and spray covers give a lot of protection.
The cutter rig is designed to provide a number of smaller sails that can be more easily handled on larger boat, allowing you more choice of pace in a broad range of conditions.
