General Information:

 

CHARLES JOURDAN, also known as NICORETTE, SKANDIA, ROYAL BLUE, is maybe the most successful sailing Maxi racer in Northern Europe and is continuing to perform at top class.



CHARLES JOURDAN won the Round Gotland Race, latest in 2007 and 2005, overall winner of Gothenburg Offshore Race 2004, 2005 and 2006, two Fastnet Races, Great Lakes Race, Sydney Hobart Race etc.

 

Due to its size of 72 feet, CHARLES JOURDAN can offer you the opportunity to directly participate and experience extreme sailing and team building at its best.

 

CHARLES JOURDAN can offer day sailing of up to 12 people per sail (MCA Coding) and can be rented for racing in Northern Europe. Always up for a challenge.

 

The yacht was built as CHARLES JOURDAN, sailing for France in the in the 1990 years Whitbread around the world, being beaten by the legendary Sir Peter Blake and STEINLAGER II.

 

In 1995 the yacht was bought by Ludde Ingvall and totally rebuilt according to measurement rules. Nicorette sailed her around the world in one of the most successfully commercial campaigns in yachting history.

 

In 1999 new owners took over and the yacht has been kept in mint conditions since. The yacht was reinforced in hull and got a refitted keel in 2005. Sail wardrobe has been updated continuously. In 2011 the yacht got a total refit, keel and rudder out, xray of rig and delaminations fixed. The yacht got her white color back, new engine, new cables and navigation computers, rafts and safety.

 

Construction:

 

CHARLES JOURDAN has been measured according to several rules as SRS, IMS, ORC and latest IRC.

 

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

  • Rebuilt in 1995, 2005 and 2011; the yacht grew a couple of extra feet in length.
  • Both aft and bow were replaced to establish a longer waterline.
  • In 2005 internal reinforcements were completed to keep the yacht stiff; everything was replaced with carbon fiber.
  • Hull was repaired and painted white in 2011.
  • The deck layout is one of the few things that remains original; robust and easy to maintain.

 

Keel & Rudder:

  • Keel and rudder were updated in 2005 and are carbon fiber.
  • 300kg of lead was added to the bulb, making it stiffer.
  • Bolts were replaced and everything was checked in 2011.

 

Machinery:

 

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 1 x Volvo Penta D2 75 S 1x115 kW (156 HP) (2011).

 

Maintenance & Performance:

  • Served by Volvo Penta and making approx 7-9  knots.  

 

Propulsion & Steering:

  • Aluminium steering quadrant with vectran cables.
  • 2 x Steering pedestals with compasses and aluminium wheels.
  • Folding Propeller.

Summary of Accommodation:

  • Repainted inside of 2011 and with some new storage for food, safety and general equipment.
  • In the main cabin you’ll find 10 x crew bunks, aluminium tube frame constructed with nylon, breathable cover underneath the bunks with storage areas.
  • 2 x Wardrobes for storage of weather and thermal gear.
  • 1 x Separate compartment for heads (2010).

Rig:

  • Original aluminium mast was replaced after dismantling in Australia.
  • Mast track was replaced (2009) and all internal equipment such as casters etc. were replaced (2010).
  • Aluminium rig was x-rayed in 2011; no cracks were found.
  • All jammers are replaced and maintained whenever needed; cockpit equipment repaired and all jammers replaced (2011).
  • New boom was built when the rig was replaced, it has been repainted and reinforced for the vang (2005).
  • Spinnaker pole and jockey pole were polished (2010).
  • All rod standing rigging was x-rayed in 2007 and 2011; no cracks were found.

  • Primary Winches: One on each side, getting support from 2 x pedestals.
  • Pit Winches: Two on each side.
  • Traveler Winches: Two, one on each side. Sitting strategically behind the helmsman and can be monitored by the persons as runners (replaced to Harken, 2011).
  • Main Winches: In the middle, in front of helmsman with support from one pedestal.
