Klipper 30

Justine is a terrific boat. Her steel construction gives her a solid feel, but her shape gives her surprising speed. Her displacement of just over 5 tons is relatively light for a steel boat. She is a boat that can sail anywhere, she’s reliable and tough, and great fun to sail.

She was constructed as the last in a series of 6 by JCS Marine of Dartford in 1980 and fitted out by the owner over 6 years. She is constructed of 4mm steel plate with a 4mm boxed keel with 5mm base and a 3mm deck.

The inside of the welds are backed by steel rod to give a very strong construction with the outside skin faired true.

The inside of the hull is painted with epoxy tar throughout. Above the waterline, it is covered with  sprayed polyurethane foam to provide, rustproofing, sound insulation, and heat insulation.
An inner skin of plywood was then built over this to protect it from damage.

The hollow inside the keel is filled with concrete mixed with steel punchings to give a ballast weight of approximately 1.25 tonnes.

The accommodation is laid out for 5 with a single berth to starboard, the table seating to starboard making up into a double and a twin berth forward with an infill to make it larger.

The heads is aft, to starboard with storage for sails etc. behind.

The chart table is between the fore-cabin and the saloon.

The cockpit has space for all on board and has tiller steering and a pair of Steersman winches are fitted to give the boat self-steering capability.

The owner loves his boat, having fitted her out and owned her for many years but his new business needs his full attention and he doesn’t want her to languish ashore for too long…

There are berths for 5 in 2 cabins with a single and a double in the main saloon and a twin with in-fill in the fore-cabin.

The saloon table has seating for all on board and room to entertain and there are shelves above the seatbacks.

The galley has a twin burner stove with oven and grill along-side a stainless steel sink and storage behind and below.

To port of the companionway steps there is a heads with lots of storage behind, under the cockpit side decks.
