Aage Nielsen Daysailor Design 136

If research done by Wooden Boat Magazine Technical Editor, Maynard Bray (Nov / Dec 1996 issue), is correct WINDHOVER was one of four boats built to a design (design #136) by Aage Nielsen for a small but robust double-ended sloop to be used primarily for daysailing. Three of the four boats built to this design (FERN, PRIMROSE and TIVOLI) were built by the Walstead Yard in Denmark. The fourth boat (now named WINDHOVER) was SEA LADY and was built in 1948 by the Windle and Tomlinson Yard of Marblehead, MA for a Mr. J. Stanley Churchill.

Not too much is known of WINDHOVER’s (ex SEA LADY) early days but  Maynard Bray mentions in his article that the boat showed up in Brooklin (ME) about the same time as his article was written. At that time she was brought to the boat shop of Eric Dow for some repairs. WINDHOVER benefitted from work done by Eric Dow during the late 1990’s in that some structural work was needed at that time and then later more work was done specifically concentrating on the replacement of the deck and cabin top.

WINDHOVER is a true classic looking for a new home. She is in very good structural condition and with appropriate cosmetic refurbishing she will easily return to her previous glory.
