Alubat Ovni 435

Escape Key, like all OVNI's, was built to go around the world in safety and comfort.  A large number of OVNI 435s are cruising in remote places.  A major French yachting magazine called the 435 an "oceanic 4 x 4" referring to the strength of the boat and its go-anywhere versatility.  AluBat (http://www.alubat.com/?lang=en) has been building aluminum sailboats for over 40 years and is one of the most experienced builders of quality sailboats.  They have perfected construction in this solid material with their comprehensive range of sailboats from 37' to over 60'.  The exceptionally strong and well-built aluminum hull will safely carry you wherever you decide to cruise.  The hull is completely self-supporting, none of the bulkheads are structural.  The mast is deck-stepped and all the standing rigging is welded to the hull sothat there are no opportunities for water or humidity to enter the vessel.

The interior wood is elm, a beautiful light wood that makes for a bright and warm interior.  Both heads are in white Formica for easy cleaning.  The shower floors and grates are the only interior teak.  All normally used interior lighting is recent vintage LED as is the masthead anchor light.

The saloon has a u-shaped settee that comfortably seats six.  Five opening hatches and one fixed hatch, two opening and two fixed ports and the longitudinal side windows provide ample light and air.  The hatches can  be dogged in two positions, one that allows a modicum of air to pass.  The center section of the settee contains the sleeve into which the centerboard fits when it is up and much storage.  There is storage under all the settees and along the hull on the port side. The starboard-side galley has a 3-burner Force 10 stove/oven, a deep double sink, a separate refrigerator and freezer each with its own independent compressor.  Cabinets for galley stores line the hull and there are four drawers for utensils.  The chart table lifts to access storage and there are four drawers under the table.  The cabin on an OVNI is not a dungeon, it is light, airy and the companionway stairs have only three steps and are wide enough  to allow two persons to pass each other (or to carry groceries without any problem).  The steps remove to allow access to the Yanmar main engine.  All tankage is midships below the saloon floorboards.  This is the three-cabin model: a forward owners cabin and two aft cabins.  

The forward owners cabin has a queen-sized pullman berth with immense storage under, four large drawers, a hanging locker and several other lockers.  There is a small settee opposite.  A large overhead hatch provides ventilation and light.  Two ports add to the light and give visibility.  Forward of the owners cabin is a head/shower also with a large overhead hatch.   Forward of the head is a huge locker that has housed canvas, folding bikes, etc.  The anchor windlass motor is safe and dry in this locker.  Further forward is the self-draining anchor locker which is totally sealed off from the living quarters.  

The port aft cabin has a large double bed, a hanging locker and several small lockers.  Two opening ports provide ventilation.  There is storage under the berth.  

A cruising boat needs lots of storage. The starboard aft cabin was commissioned to provide this and is used for service.  It contains the 5kW Northern Lights diesel generator, the washing machine, battery charger/inverter, etc.
