Southern Cross 39

This amazing classic has been lovingly customized with a Tool & Die Makers tolerances. A stage two factory hull began it’s outfitting life with ballast and chain plates set up by the factory, then it’s owner built out this hull to perfection from 1981 – 2009 before it even was splashed in Lake Michigan. It sailed only 3 years in fresh water before the careful craftsman became un-able to sail her. This boat is still brand new and needs to find someone who can appreciate this beautiful, Sea Worthy Blue Water Cruiser. All inquiries are welcome!

Southern Cross sailboats are known for their seagoing interiors. The aft quarter cabin is very comfortable and secure for the off-watch while under way. The forward cabin brings the captain and first mate together when at anchor. “Great Escape” is finished in all wood with fine teak joinery coupled with an ash overhead, multiple opening ports, and a teak and holly cabin sole. “Great Escape” is a true ocean going yacht.

The forward cabin has a double V-berth w/filler cushion, hanging locker, storage drawers, cabinet, screened deck hatch, two deck prisms, and brass reading lights. There is a sliding privacy door to the salon.

The salon’s port settee makes a comfortable single berth with storage under, behind and above and outboard. The starboard L shaped dinette also has storage under, behind and outboard and can serve as a single berth. The center line drop leaf table will seat six. Good light and ventilation are provided by both reading and dome lights, multiple opening ports w/screens, Dorade vents, screened deck hatches and the companionway has both proper drop boards and screens. The interior grab rails make movement below decks safe and secure in a seaway.

The U-shaped galley to starboard has louvered storage,  double stainless steel sinks near center line with a cold water foot pump, cold pressure water, a large insulated ice box that has been converted to Norcold 110V AC/12V DC refrigeration, a new gimbaled, two burner Origo 6000 alcohol stove with oven, and a microwave.

The aft facing navigation station is to starboard and aft of the galley. The chart table is large with considerable storage. There is room for paper charts, repeaters or a laptop connection.

The head is to port with a manual head & holding tank (the overboard discharge has been rendered inoperable), stainless steel sink, manual foot pump, molded counter top, mirror, fiberglass shower stall that needs to be plumbed, cabinet, and storage shelves, stainless steel hand holds, deck prism, deck hatch and two opening ports.

The port quarter cabin has a comfortable single that is perfect for the off watch. There is good light and ventilation from a deck hatch, prism, brass reading light, and dome light. There are well thought out cabinets, drawers and cubbies for efficient use of the space.
