Cruising Catamaran

Are you a husband and wife team looking for a very comfortable catamaran to cruise on. Something that is easy to sail, yet soundly built with a proven track record of quality sea miles behind her. What about an open plan design that is so practical featuring a huge galley,  lounge 2 bedrooms and a bathroom all on the one level. Yes, all this on a catamaran!

This is a big volume catamaran built with comfortable extended cruising and ease of operation well and truly in mind. A good account of her building and test sail can be found in The Coastal Passage  http://buildacat.com/lyra1.html .

The all headsail rig works really well. Very easy to use with electric furler and self tacking inner sail. Sailing at 30 degrees apparent wind and seeing anywhere up to a max speed of 19 knots on a broad reach has been safely achieved. Most commonly the vessel is either sailed or motored at the likes of 8 knots.

Well set up and ready to go, this catamaran boasts Australian register, life raft, HF radio, 6 solar panels and solar hot water, wind generator, water maker, washing machine, TV, CD stereo, AGM batteries with a smart battery charger and power point solar regulator. She has full instrumentation including a broadband radar with integrated chart plotter and gyro stabilised Coursemaster autopilot.

Power is by 30 HP Yanmars driving Gori props through sail legs giving a max speed of 9 knots and a cruising speed of 7 knots at 2/3 revs.

Lyra has done 12700 nautical miles since she was launched in December 2009 with a Louisiades trip to her credit and many coastal passages between the Gold Coast and Lizard Island.
