Tartan 37 Fixed Keel

It’s a slim chance that even the greenest sailor won’t know the names Sparkman & Stephens and Tartan Yachts. In the late 1970s, S&S produced the design for a 37 foot cruiser/racer to which almost 500 hulls were eventually built by Tartan – an impressive production run for a high quality cruising boat. Construction details are fantastic and her interior is beautifully constructed. Accommodations are comfortable and conceived for living while under way. A swift hull shape sails well and her timeless lines draw attention wherever she goes.

Whisper is a South Pacific Veteran and has been equipped accordingly, including solar panels and Windvane.  She has benefited from continued care and maintenance with recent upgrades including new main, new roller furling headsail, upholstery, electrical panel, engine instrument panel, water heater and the list goes on.  Whisper has been priced fairly for a quick sale and represents an excellent value.

The Tartan 37’s nicely appointed interior is beautifully finished in teak. The interior cushions, upholstery and headliner are new 2013. Storage is plentiful and well-conceived for longer cruises. The layout provides a good seagoing configuration while maintaining a spacious salon and galley space for entertaining at rest. She will sleep seven with a private master stateroom forward, quarter berth aft, salon settees and pilot berth.

Forward is the master stateroom with V-berth. There are shelves along above the berth along the hull side.  A louvered door on the forward bulkhead gives access to the chain locker forward.   Aft and to port there is a tall hanging locker. Opposite – there is a bank of drawers and an additional hanging locker.  Two Hella fans keep things cool.  A large hatch and opening ports provide great ventilation.

Aft and to port is the head which may be accessed via both the salon and master stateroom. The compartment is finished in white laminate surfaces with teak trim and a molded fiberglass shower sump. The shower is integral to the space. There is a Raritan manual head mounted along the hull side facing inboard. Forward is a small counter with stainless sink and hot/cold pressure water and manual foot pump. There is a locker below the counter. Above on the forward bulkhead is a mirrored medicine cabinet. There is an open shelf outboard of the sink and a large locker just aft. An opening port and Vetus vent provides ventilation.

The salon is next aft. At the forward end opposite the head is an additional hanging locker which has been modified with built in canvas shelving. Aft, there are straight settees to starboard and an L-shaped settee to port. Outboard of the settee to port there is a series of lockers and a bookshelf. The dining table easily seats 6, has a drop leaf and folds against the forward bulkhead. To starboard, there is a straight settee with pilot berth outboard.  Just forward of the starboard settee is the bulkhead mounted Dickinson diesel heater.  There are lockers below the pilot berth outboard of the settee. Handrails run along the cabin sides to port and starboard. Opening ports, overhead hatch and dorade vents provide ventilation.

The galley is aft and to starboard. The U-shaped counter provides an excellent seagoing arrangement with everything close at hand. The galley is finished with white laminate counters with teak trim. There are three large lockers outboard of the counter. Below the forward edge of the counter is a large top loading ice box (easily converted to refrigerator).    Aft is the 2 burner Force 10 gimbaled stove/oven.  Aft is a deep two bin stainless sink with pressure hot/cold water faucet and manual foot pump faucets for both salt and fresh water. There is a dry storage locker outboard of the sink. There are bins for dishes and additional storage aft. Below the sink there is an additional large locker.

The nav station and quarter berth is adjacent to the companionway stairs to port. There is a large nav table with a locker outboard and shelf above.  A Hella fan keeps things cool at the nav table and quarter berth.  Aft is a long double quarter berth which makes an excellent sea berth
