Rig: Staysail schooner

Construction: Carvel planking of Acajou mahogany fastened with bronze rivets to oak frames on 7inch centres. Full keel with external cast-iron ballast and keel-hung rudder. New marine ply and epoxy deck, with some new beams, new transom and some new laminated timbers, 2006.

Engine: Beta Marine 50 hp, fitted new 2004.

Diesel fuel is stowed in twin 40 gallon tanks either side of the engine under the saloon floor.

 

Electrical: 12v power is generated by the engine and by two solar panels (fitted 2013) mounted on the deck box, which in good conditions provide ample power for day-to-day requirements. It is stored in 4 Trojan 6 volt deep cycle batteries and one 12v starting battery.

There is a charger connected to the mains power system, supplied through approx 30m of cable stored in deck box, which also supplies 3 sockets inboard.

An M009 skytronic inverter otherwise supplies 220v power for charging computers, phones, main ship's torch and other electric equipment.

Sails: mainsail new 2008, yankee No 1 new 2011, yankee No 2, working jib, storm jib, main staysail, flying staysail, fisherman topsail, spinnaker, storm trysail, all serviceable.

 

Ground tackle: Bruce main anchor with approx 60m of chain, electric windlass for hauling, Danforth kedge with 2m chain and approx 80m of nylon rode stored in deck box. A third anchor is stored under starboard cockpit seat.

 

Accomodation: single settee/bunks either side on main saloon, one of which converts into a double; midships is the galley with gimballed, Plastimo cooker with two burners, grill and oven, gas supplied from deck-box overhead with solenoid cut-off switch, and with a stainless steel sink, pressurised water also supplies the shower in the heads opposite. It has a Vetus electric wc (new with waste tank 2012). Forward of this is the master cabin with double bunk and extensive lockerage, with 80 gallon stainless steel fresh-water tank beneath bunk, then the forepeak with one full-sized bunk, a small pipe-cot, a manual Ovea wc, access to the chain locker and considerable storage.

 

Safety equipment: 8 man RFD liferaft (requires servicing), sea parachute and reglamentary flares, lifejackets, safety-harnesses. GME epirb, emergency power supply for VHF. Automatic electric bilge pump, Whale double-action manual bilge pump under port cock-pit seat, which converts into fire/sea-water pump.

Tender: Emsworth lugger is carried on deck, with full sailing rig stowed in forepeak.

 

 

She has just completed a cruise from Ireland and around the Western Mediterranean, is in good working order and ready for sea.

Bottom was painted, anodes renewed etc this June (2014).

 

This yacht gives all the special pleasure associated with a wooden classic; she is a sweet, comfortable and very sea-kindly sailing boat that has given her present owners much glorious cruising. The unusual rig is very effective, and while it provides plenty of exercise, it is easily handled by two people.
