Luke Gaff Yawl - Wonderful Classic

1911 by A R Luke, re-built by Peter Brookes, charming engineless yawl, timeless classic, in Classic Boats top 250 boats !  New sails, rigging, cockpit and upholstery in past 5 years. 

CONSTRUCTION                            

Built in 1911.  Wooden construction of pitch pine on oak frames, carvel with lead keel and slatted wooden decks covered with marine ply and epoxy cloth sheathed.  Cream painted topsides and grey painted decks.  Gaff Yawl rig and varnished spars, aft cockpit, 3 berth internal layout with a maximum headroom of around 5’6”.

SAILS  & RIG:                          

Mainsail (Cormorant Sails - new, used 3 times) with new mainsail cover.   Smaller mainsail (Cormorant Sails new – used 4 times).   Mainsail (James Lawrence, 2006).  Mizzen (Cormorant Sails - new) with new sail cover.  Genoa, staysail and jib (all new Cormorant Sails ).   No 1 Jib (James Lawrence, 2006), Staysail (James Lawrence, 2006).  Mizzen staysail (new - Cormorant Sails  - used once).   An assortment of older sails.  Pine mast and spars and stainless steel standing rigging.  Her mast is original and her standing rigging was renewed in 2006.

ENGINE:                                           

Yamaha 2.4 hp 4 stoke outboard on removable bracket on quarter.   1 new heavy duty battery.

DECK GEAR:                             

Cockpit cover, tiller, wooden dinghy, CQR main anchor with chain, kedge anchor with warp, various mooring warps and fenders.  Full “heavy” winter cover (new 2012/3 Cormorant Sails).  Assortment of new cabin and cockpit covers (Cormorant Sails – recent)

SAFETY GEAR:                          

4 lifejackets, one safety harness, distress flares, fire extinguisher, manual bilge pump, electric bilge pump.

NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT:       

Compass, echo sounder, log, clock and barometer, navigation lights.

DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT:           

Her galley has a gas cooker with 2 burners.  Various cupboards and stowage.  Opening ports.  Red upholstery (renewed 2006). 

ACCOMMODATION:                  

She has 3 berths including 2 “V” berths in the forepeak and one single settee berth. 

 REMARKS:                               

“Cormorant” was purchased by her previous owner about 20 years ago in a very run down condition.  During the past 20 years her last owner has had the hull rebuilt by Peter Brookes and in recent years has added new sails, rigging, cockpit and upholstery.  Her current owner purchased her in 2009 and has improved her, painting her insides and out in 2012.    She has been sailed locally and across the North Sea.  She is a delightful classic yawl, listed in “Classic Boat” top 250 yachts, nicely presented and ready to sail.
