Westsail Hull Number 645
It took over a 100 years to bring her into being. Some of the most brilliant boat design minds are melded into this final product - a Westsail 32. It all started with a 19th century Colin Archer design of the 47' Norwegian pilot boat Regis Voyager, it progressed in the 1920's when William Atkins reduced and refined Archer's design for his 32' designs Eric and Thistle. In the 1960's the famous naval architect W.I.B. "Bill" Crealock was commissioned to take the wooden Thistle's lines and convert them for fiberglass construction. The design became the Kendall 32. Snider and Lynne Vick purchased the tooling for the Kendall 32 after the Kendall operation failed and entered bankruptcy and at that time commissioned Crealock once again to redesign a new trunk cabin of which the end product is what is known as the Westsail 32. The Westsail 32's were manufactured in California and in North Carolina. There were nearly 800 W32's built between 1970 to the closing of the business in 1981. They came one of two ways; factory finished or sold as "kits". The W32 ranks as the most popular amateur-built boat ever marketed in this country. The W32 is also the boat that started it all with the marketing slogan "Westsail The World". America now had a boat that was not only affordable but had the capabilities of taking you anywhere your dreams would lead.
"Namida" is a factory finished boat who has been well-loved and well cared for. She has been off shore and has recently been cruising the Chesapeake Bay. Namida is a female name that means "star dancer" in the Chippewa Indian language. She is longing to see blue water again and is anxiously awaiting her new crew.
