Angelman Ketch - New arrival

Beautiful 41 foot Custom Ketch Sailboat. Well taken care of located in Vancouver BC, Canada.

This craft has been finished with traditional construction methods and this has been supplemented with additional refurbishment completed to a very high standard of workmanship (cupboards and interior furniture including galley area). The cabin sole are teak strips. The joiner work seems to have been completed to a high standard. The interior wood bulkheads were finely fitted. There is a single solid teak  doorway for the head. There is ample storage available on-board under all the bunks, drawers and in the numerous hanging lockers. This vessels interior has a variety of colors in all cabins and back rests. She sleeps 5 adults (double forward, port and starboard side main cabin), and a quarter berth starboard side. There is a single manually operated toilet that discharges directly over the side. There is no holding tank onboard the vessel. Numerous conveniently located 12-volt lights down below. In the galley is a table top propane 2 burner stove in the galley. A single 11” x 14” deep stainless steel sink with water taps. There are also plenty of shelf storage for dishes and utensils.

HULL, DECK AND SUPERSTRUCTURE

MATERIAL: Teak  carvel on gumwood frames (with deck, house and hull constructed of solid teak wood) with copper rivets and bronze bolt fasteners. Decks are plywood with solid teak deck strips and aft deck is solid teak deck strips only . On the deck outboard edges is a short hardwood capped 10” high bulwark with spaced drainage for deck scuppers.  

EXTERIORHULL: Carvel teak planked painted white. 

PORT LIGHTS: A series of 13 opening bronze framed round tempered glass port lights located all around the coach roof .   

TRANSOM: Traditional design sheer transom with extended bulwarks, reportedly of solid teak..

BILGE:  Deepest part of the bilge located under the main cabin floorboards.

CHAIN LOCKER DRAINAGE: Drains to forward bilge.

BALLAST: A bolt on lead ballast at the leading forward edge of the keel.

LIMBER HOLES: Yes free and clear where observed.

DECK FITTINGS
BOW PULPIT: stainless steel bow pulpit mounted on a wood bowsprit support by chain bob stay and side supports    

VENTILATION: Ample, with the companionway entry, the foredeck hatch, the 13 opening round port lights and several coach roof mounted bronze dorade vents  

CHOCKS AND CLEATS: Hardwood Sampson post on foredeck and two galvanized cleats on the aft corners. with 4 oval shaped fairleads set into the raised teak bulwarks.

PUSHPIT:  N/A

STANCHIONS: Yes – there is a single row of safety wire set up on the spaced SS deck stanchions.

GRAB RAIL: There are two teak hardwood hand rails that run the length of the coach-roof.

LIFELINES: Yes . Stanchions and lifelines that run on the foredeck to the aft cockpit area.

DECK HATCHES: Single hardwood framed foredeck hatch and the sliding main hatch. 

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES (partial list)

50’ shore power cord, portable man overboard ladder,  2 x burner counter top stove, wheel steered, mainsail, mizzen and jib, 5 x  #5 winches plus others on mast, brass barometer and lamp, 7’ rowing dinghy with 2 oars, pair of stern mounted galvanized dinghy davits, single propane 20# bottle mounted on aft deck, AC powered toaster oven, Dickinson diesel heater not tested, barometer, 6 fenders, new custom built fridge for galley, head was reportedly replaced within 5 years, new propeller and shaft, stuffing box, new laminated mizzen mast, reportedly within 5 years new standing rigging (mix of swage and  Norseman fittings, new 60’ plough anchor and 160’ of 3/8” galvanized chain, new Standard Horizon VHF, new depth sounder transducer on the hull, new set of mattresses in the main cabin, new liner for ice box in galley, new galley storage locker installed, new navigation lights, manual windlass, 2 x new batteries Nov. 2011, TV, new compass, new DC electric panel, 4 x 5 gal. fuel cans, 2 lifejackets, black canvas cover for main hatch entry, both mast booms, fore hatch, central hatch on coach roof, propane powered BBQ not tested), Xantrax True Charge battery charger (did not test),

INTERIOR BULKHEADS: The interior wood bulkheads were finely fitted where sighted.

WATER INTRUSION SIGNS: Yes, only in a few areas, in the vicinity of two round port lights in the cabin interior and the base of where the mainmast steps to the deck. 

DOORWAYS: There is a single solid teak  doorway for the head. 

LOCKERS AND STORAGE: There is ample storage available on-board under all the bunks, drawers and in the numerous hanging lockers.  

FABRIC AND CUSHIONS: on the vessel interior were a variety of colors in all cabins and back rests, all appear to be in good condition.  

ACCOMODATION: Sleeps 5 adults (double forward, port and starboard side main cabin), and a quarter berth starboard side.

HEAD AND SHOWER: There is a single manually operated toilet that discharges directly over the side. There is no holding tank onboard the vessel. 

LIGHT FIXTURES: Numerous conveniently located 12-volt lights down below. Most lights were operated or tested.

GALLEY: a table top propane 2 burner stove in the galley. A single 11” x 14” deep stainless-steel sink manually water taps. There are also plenty of shelf storage for dishes and utensils. 

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

FLARES:Up to Date

LIFEJACKETS: 6 lifejacketsare onboard.

SAFETY RING: A single safety ring gov’t approved.

SOUND DEVICES: CO2 air horn.

NAVIGATION LIGHTS: In place - are operating.

BILGE PUMPS: There is a single electric bilge pump with float switch and annually operated pump onboard the vessel.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS: Three 5 BC units were observed onboard and appeared to be within date 

RADAR REFLECTOR: Yes

REBOARDING DEVICE: Yes rope line

 

MAIN ENGINE

The engine is a Universal 4 cylinder - 40 horsepower freshwater cooled diesel engine with aHurthtransmission  The propeller is a 3 bladedCampbellprop shaft.   The vessel has a single aluminum; fuel tank with a capacity of 40 gallons (est.).  The controls for the engine are standard Morse lever controls.   

DC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

All the wiring appears to be of the proper gauge and properly connected, well routed and supported.  The panel for the 12-volt system branch is fused.

There are two 12 volt batteries for house use and engine start purposes. 

The batteries were well housed and secured. 

AC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

There is a functioning 110 volt system on-board. The vessel’s shore outlet is located in the vicinity deck house.  All the wiring appears to be multistrand wiring permitted small marine craft.

FRESH WATER SYSTEM

There are 2 x 75 gallon stainless steel water tanks onboard. 12 volt water pressure ump powered up

 SANITATION (BLACK WATER)

There is one manually operated head onboard the vessel. The head pumps directly overboard.  The head was tested for correct operation.

STEERING SYSTEM

The steering system on-board this vessel is a worm gear system – it appeared to straightforward with wheel.   

PROPANE SYSTEM

There is a simple propane system (2 burner stove) with a hose directly from the propane bottle. The hose goes directly to the stove.

GROUND TACKLE

There is a 60# plough main anchor with what appears to appropriate length of chain (160’ plus of 5/8” chain). Also there is a manually operated windlass on the foredeck.  There is also a second anchor observed onboard. 

VESSEL THROUGHHULLFITTINGS

All of the BWL trough hull valves are ball valve type 

STANDING RIGGING / RUNNING RIGGING

Both masts are stepped on the keel. The mast and booms are laminated spruce wood box construction. This vessel is a standard single spreader ketch. Her head stay is a straight hank on wire system. A deck level standing rig inspection was conducted and the swages looked good.  The terminal ends are a mixture of swages and Norseman. 

SAILS

Mainsail, mizzen (both reportedly original sails) and a jib (2000).

WETTED SURFACE AREA INSPECTION

The complete hull was sounded above and below the water line, and no soft areas were detected. The 3 Campbell bladed propeller had some small bronze blisters on it indicating that it lacked zinc anode protection some time in the past. Ensure that the underwater machinery is properly protected from stray current corrosion at all times.
