This is a strongly built cold molded wood boat with fiberglass covered hull.  The finest materials have been used and great care taken to produce a high quality product.  Over $75,000 invested.  Though mostly complete, it remains unfinished and is being sold this way due to health reasons.

36’ Shoal Draft Centerboard Ketch

Construction: Began in October 2010. ALL fastening on this boat was done with Type 316 SS screws and bolts, or silicon bronze, and ALL pieces have been assembled or laminated with epoxy glue. All transverse and longitudinal framing is Alaskan yellow cedar, including laminated upper and lower chines, and sheer clamps. Stem, outer keel, and skeg are laminated yellow cedar, transom is laminated yellow cedar 3/4” vertical strip plank inner layer, core of two layers of 3/8” fir marine ply, and outer layer of horizontal planks of 1/2" cypress. Hull planking is laminated fir marine ply, lower bottom 3 layers of 1/2”, upper bottom and topsides are one layer of 1/2”and one layer of 3/8” for a finish thickness of 7/8”. All outer surfaces of the hull are covered with 10 oz. glass cloth set in epoxy resin, double layers at the chines. Cabin sides are 1”x 1/2” cypress strip plank outer layer, 1/2" marine ply core, and 1/2" cypress vertical staving on the interior. Cabin top is two layers of 3/8” marine ply with ten oz. glass overlay. This is a strongly built low maintenance cold molded wooden boat.

This boat was designed by the builder using many successful shoal draft design principles used by Philip C. Bolger in his shallow draft designs. A flotation model was built to a scale of 1”= 1’-0” and weighted to that scale for float testing. I have many photos of the float test and the entire building process up to this point.

Much of the hardware for the boat is custom made from Type 316 SS i.e. bowsprit fittings, roller chocks, rudder fittings, centerboard fittings, etc. The opening ports are round 8” bronze and are installed as are the two Lewmar cabin top hatches. The (5) windows for the hard dodger are vinyl framed tempered safety glass from Marinelite Widows Ltd., NS Canada, and are installed.

The engine is brand new, the gear is factory re-built, both have 0 hrs. The shaft is new 1-1/4” Aquamet-22 with a new coupling and Drivesaver , the propeller is a 16” x 14” three blade Michigan also new.  Borg-Warner 2.5:1 72C gear transmission.

The engine, water lift muffler, exh. hose, stuffing box and shaft are installed and aligned. The fuel tanks are   ( 3 ) 30 gal. Moeller polyethylene tanks, one currently installed. Steering system is custom built cable operated with pedestal, 40” Lewmar wheel and Kobelt two handle engine control.

All fittings, equipment, lumber and materials that I have on hand for this boat are included in the sale. Work required to complete this boat is to finish the interior joiner work, build the spars, and finish the mechanical and electrical systems. I’m selling the boat prior to completion due to health reasons.
