Townson 40 - New Zealand Classic

This iconic New Zealand classic has a lot going for her with her superb sailing ability plus a very comfortable interior. Cezanne was jointly designed by Bill and Des Townson, as a Blue water Cruiser. Built by master craftsman Bill Townson to the highest of standards- specifically with a circumnavigation in mind. Cezanne proved herself offshore admirably in all respects, and the successful voyage was completed in the late 1980,s. Since then she has only had another two owners, a testament to the sailing ability and comfort of this fine vessel. Her current owners of 14 years have continued to maintain and upgrade the yacht and have kept her in a condition she deserves.

 

Around 2001 Cezanne was repowered her with the Yanmar 40 and sail drive, giving the yacht superior manoeuvring capability or the conventional shaft system. That made a big improvement especially with anchoring, mooring etc., giving much better manoeuvring. Also better performance was also noted with the folding prop.

 

 

 

 

 

From July 2010 to September Cezanne 2012 underwent a major refit, which included the following.

 

• Approximately 3500 hours were spent on the refit
• Refit cost was approx. $60-70,000 including labour, though there were many free hours of free labour provided by her caring owners. Quality was priority over cost.
• Received a full repaint       was by a professional painter
• New marine ply deck, I think 12 mm, installed, screwed and glued then glassed and painted.
• New rigging and fittings.
• New wind instruments, navigation lights and new batteries.
• New anchor capstan remotely operated from cockpit or hand control, with chain counter.
• The teak cockpit re-caulked. New traveller moved to original position.
• All stanchions removed and fittings checked and repaired or replaced. Toe rail repaired.
